Free Boingo Internet for American Express Platinum Cardholders

Matthew Klint Posted onMay 31, 2014December 6, 2016 4 Comments

American Express Platinum is on the rebound. It was right to question the value of the $450 annual fee when Continental left Membership Rewards, US Airways lounge access was lost, and Delta lounge access was severely curtailed, but in many ways, the AMEX Platinum is now my most valuable credit card. And with the introduction of free and unlimited Boingo Wi-Fi from 1MN+ ground-based sources worldwide, the card is now even more valuable for U.S. cardholders.

This program has been in the works for month but has gone live a couple days ahead of the planned June 1st rollout. Of importance, inflight Wi-Fi is exempt from this program and you can connect up to four devices. Also, Canadian and UK Platinum cardholders are not eligible for this program despite paying similar annual fees.

Sign-up is a breeze at amex.boingo.com.

Just enter your card number, your credentials will be validated, and you will see the following message–

From there, you can set up a username and password and start enjoying free wi-fi immediately (which I will do next week at Chicago O’Hare, which still does not offer complimentary Wi-Fi).

Happy surfing!

Doesn’t look like UK-based Platinum cards are eligible. Considering the UK card’s annual fee is more than 50% higher than the US card’s, I find that a bit absurd.

Same here for the Canadian Platinum card…and same about what we pay compared to Americans.

I entered my UK based personal Platinum card info and it accepted it. So I think at sometime they decided to allow UK Platinum cards as well.
