Review: Goldbelly Brings Destination Eats to You

Invalid request error occurred.I ordered from Goldbelly for the first time this week to try out the service (and an American Express Platinum benefit) and this was my experience.

Goldbelly’s Concept

Goldbelly started as a brand that would help entrepreneurs of local favorites ship their products everywhere. It’s not necessarily a new concept, for decades Giordano’s has shipped their casserole-sized pizzas across the country. Goldbelly expanded across a number of restaurants serving gourmet food that had a cult following.

When Goldbelly started out there were just a handful of restaurants and products that participated. Now, however, there are hundreds and they’ve added featured chefs like Wolfgang Puck and food from restaurants like Momofoku.

Bringing Destinations to You

What I love about Goldbelly is that it allows you to connect with places you’ve visited to get a real taste of that place. It’s also an opportunity to experience what that place might be like. I’ve been to just about everywhere in Texas many times – I practically lived there for a year – but I’ve never been to Austin and thus, I’ve never been able to try the famous Franklin BBQ.

My wife was familiar with a bakery featured on Sex and the City, Magnolia. I’ve commented on this blog many times that my experience in New York City is fairly limited, just a handful of trips – I’ve been to Barcelona more times than New York City, despite growing up in Nebraska. That said, being able to get a dozen Magnolia cupcakes delivered for a special event would be like bringing New York to her.

For comparison’s sake, I shopped both Magnolia direct for pickup (no shipping) prices for a dozen cupcakes to match the dozen sold on Goldbelly. When factoring in shipping materials, I really didn’t think the prices were drastically different from Magnolia’s own pricing.

My Experience

We love Asia and have been missing it this last year. Common throughout the Pacific is Japan’s famous Wagyu beef. Goldbelly offers a number of steak options but I selected Westholme Wagyu from Queensland, Australia. I picked their Wagyu Assortment pack that consisted of:

  • (2) pounds of ground beef
  • (2) 14 oz New York Strips, and
  • (2) 8 oz Top Sirloin

The turnaround time was fast. I ordered on a Tuesday, by Wednesday it was on a plane and by Friday it was at my door packed with dry ice in a styrofoam container (free shipping was included though I paid $20 for expedited.) We had some friends over for dinner to share the steaks, the ground beef was saved for later.

This is what was advertised and here is what arrived.

It was pretty close to what was advertised and we prepared the steak as we should. A flat natural gas griddle, a little olive oil, salt, and pepper. We sliced the Top sirloin before cooking as we had experienced at restaurants but cooked the New York Strips whole. I’d recommend cooking them whole to keep more of the flavor and temperature.

Here’s the finished product:

We were very, very happy with the product as were our guests.

Goldbelly Promo Codes/Discounts

There are a few Goldbelly discount codes new customers should be aware of. On a customer’s first visit, they are eligible for $15 off, certainly a good start.

This promo code offers a discount as well.

American Express has added a bunch of offers and benefits to keep Platinum cardholders engaged with the card. One of those is a 3x credit for Goldbelly purchases where $100 purchases result in a $50 credit. In my case, the credit was instant. Shopping normally on the Goldbelly website will process the credit with not Goldbelly coupon code necessary at checkout.

Conclusion

I was impressed with my first order. I thought the food was great, I love the concept and that when I wanted my order right away, shipping was verified, Goldbelly delivered. Between the promo code, and the credit from American Express, why not try to bring a taste of the destinations we can’t visit right now to your doorstep?

What do you think? Have you tried Goldbelly? What did you order, and what destination did you have delivered?

The warning about “author compensation” should be at the top of the article so I could have the rip cord sooner.

I’ve criticized your opinions in the past but can’t with how you like your steaks – rare to medium rare. Damn, the striploins look good! Great fat cap, too.

Awesome! Next time try Magnolia’s banana pudding! I’ve used Goldbelly to send Lady M cakes to a friend who lives in Montana as she loved Lady M cakes during her visit to NYC where I live. Overall great service especially during this pandemic.

It’s the system that Imo’s uses to market and ship their St Louis style pizzas around the US. I just used it for the first time and was satisfied with how it went. Took a week to get them but was willing to wait.

Frozen meat from the other side of the world and a few varnished cupcakes for $250? Completely bonkers. If you MUST eat this stuff…and I’d sooner walk over hot coals than consume it…buy it locally, where businesses could do with the support.
Perhaps I’m being uncharacteristically irascible, as I’ve got a very sore arm from the COVID jab.

$8 per cupcake – that had better be the best cupcake in the history of cups and cakes.

Oops – that’s $11 per cupcake via GoldBelly! Damn!

      @Not Lucky – I think you’re confused. Goldbelly’s price of $65 for 12 cupcakes is $5.41/cupcake and includes shipping nationwide. Magnolia’s price for pick-up was $47.40 for (2) orders of 6 cupcakes or $3.95/cupcake.

And for what it’s worth, I think you’d find plenty of support that they are some of the best cupcakes in the history of cups and cakes.

You do realize that beef from Australia cannot possibly be real Wagyu? Nice commercial, tho,

I had the lazy cioppino delivered from Phil’s Fish Market and it was very good for frozen. Anchor oyster bar still makes the best version I’ve ever tried.

I ordered exotic fruits but instead they sent me rotten and damaged fruits for a $115.95. After providing the evidence their customer service added me $10. THIS IS A SCAM SITE!!!
