Review: Helvetic Airways Fokker 100 Business Class Munich to Zurich

Matthew Klint Posted onApril 20, 2018November 14, 2023 4 Comments

Helvetic Airways offers contract flights for Lufthansa and SWISS. This short flight from Munich to Zurich was operated on behalf of Lufthansa.

While not in every case, these Fokker 100 flights tend to operate from a remote stand in Frankfurt and Munich and this flight was no exception. Since I was a connecting first class passenger on Lufthansa, I was driven to the plane in a Mercedes Benz S-Class and was first to board.

Lufthansa 2370
Munich (MUC) – Zurich (ZRH)
Tuesday, April 03, 2018
Depart: 3:25PM
Arrive: 4:20PM
Duration: 0hr,55min
Aircraft: Fokker 100
Seat: 2F (Business Class)

I have raved about this “vintage” aircraft in the past. It’s a wonderful aircraft not so much because it is super comfortable, but because it is relatively comfortable compared to the Recaro slimline seats found throughout the intra-Europe fleets of so many airlines today.

The old gray leather seats are well-padded and legroom is noticeably better. There’s no power or USB ports, but even the latest Lufthansa shorthaul jets don’t have any.

I love the big ovular windows:

an airplane window with a view of the runway and buildings

a control panel with knobs and buttons

a white and red sign with black text

a white box with instructions on it

FAs wear Helvetic Airways uniforms rather than Lufthansa uniforms, but service itself resembles any other Lufthansa intra-Europe flight.

As we taxied out of our remote gate, I enjoyed great tarmac views:

We took off to the west, flying over beautiful green meadows and fields below.

After takeoff, a light meal was offered. It included a sandwich, seeded red grapes, cake, and chocolate.

It was 3pm and I had just had a large lunch so I passed on it, though it’s always nice to receive a meal on 45-minute flight.

Real glasses are used while napkins are paper rather than cloth.

We landed on schedule on Zurich, pulling up to a real gate rather than remote stand.

CONCLUSION

I write about these brief flights to gauge change on them over the years. In fact, very little has changed. The onboard service style on this flight has likely been around as long as the aircraft itself.
