Last month I took advantage of a great business class fare on Hong Kong Airlines for an upcoming trip to Asia. But now the trip just got even sweeter.
What can beat a $688 round-trip business class tickets to Asia? Well, how about brand new business class seat onboard?
I was already happy to fly on Hong Kong Airlines’ (HX) older seat, similar to the business class seats Alitalia and Iberia offer onboard.
They are not the best, but still quite comfortable. But HX has now taken delivery of its first A350 with reverse herringbone seating. These seats are not inherently more comfortable than the other business class seats, but are more spacious and private.
Alvin Tse, who writes the Young Travelers of Hong Kong blog, got to see the new seats first-hand and published some great pictures on his blog. I look forward to not only experiencing Hong Kong Airlines for the first time, but hopefully also experiencing the new seats, which will be featured on the Los Angeles route.
CONCLUSION
While Hong Kong Airlines claims this was a mistake fare and not intentional (I have my doubts), the airline has affirmed it will honor all “sale” tickets issued. I give them great credit for that. I eagerly await my flight.

Haha i had doubts too that was a mistake! They’ve got so much good presss about how they are the greatest airline ever for honoring cheap seats on empty planes 🙂 also means they don’t anger real passengers who paid more, or people who will pay more in the future. I like it
As someone who has been in the shoes at RM to analyze mistake fare impact- I’ll bet this was a mistake fare, but came the the conclusion within 5 minutes on the back of a napkin that they wouldn’t be losing money on it. They just sold a ton of empty seats at prices above what economy fares sell for. Not partnering with other airlines also makes it cheaper to honor as they aren’t selling codeshare connections or anything else that would require paying a large portion of the ticket price to another airline
We’re flying lax-hkg on this a350-900 in early December! Will the new seats be on that route? Can someone confirm?
I don’t think it is guaranteed, but that they have deployed their later deliveries on the LAX route, so expect it. I certainly am next month!
