Review: Hyatt Regency Mainz (Suite)

Matthew Klint Posted onJuly 16, 2018November 14, 2023 2 Comments

One of my favorite hotels in Germany is the Hyatt Regency Mainz. In terms of upgrades, though, it is one of the most difficult. In over 20 stays at the hotel over the last few years, I’ve only been upgraded to a suite once. Here’s a review of it.

You can read my full review of the property and its amenities here. This review focuses on the Regency Suite upgrade I received on a stay earlier this year.

My understanding is that the hotel has only two suites: a Regency Suite (this review) and a Presidential Suite, which is currently in use on a long-term basis.

The suite is on the sixth floor, the hotel’s top level that includes the Regency Club Lounge.

a door with a handle and a doorknob

As you enter the room, 609, you’ll find a large living room with a couch, two chairs, and a large dining room table. The suite overlooks the Main river.

A welcome note and bowl of fruit were waiting on the table. In the post-Gold Passport era, it is increasingly rare to receive a welcome amenity.

Just to the right of the door is an espresso machine, which standard rooms do not have.

To the left is a guest bathroom that is fairly spacious, though contains only a sink and toilet.

While standard rooms have German-branded water, the suite offered Evian in larger bottles:

two bottles of water on a table

A cordless phone was also present in addition to the standard landline:

a telephone on a table

The living room also had a DVD/Blu-Ray player and Bose speakers:

a remote control on a silver rectangular device

a dvd player and remotes on a shelf

a black square speaker on a table

The bedroom was comparatively small to the living room with a king-size bed, a TV, and little else.

The master bathroom was dated, but large, with a large tub and separate shower, segregated toilet, and dual sinks.

a bathtub and towel rack in a bathroom

a white towels next to a bathtub

a bathroom with a glass shower and a sink

a bathtub in a bathroom

CONCLUSION

It was great to have the extra space to spread around, especially when I was working late and my business partner John wanted to sleep. Suite upgrades are rare at this hotel, but nice when they occur.

We stayed at the Hyatt Regency Mainz last December and used a GSU and were upgraded into the Presidential suite for 4 nights. It was our first and only stay at the HR Mainz and at the time, we did not realize that they had such limited number of suites. We obviously had a wonderful time and would definitely return.

That’s great! I hope to one day experience the Presidential Suite myself.
