A man pulled out a large iMac desktop computer and began working in the emergency exit row of a United Airlines flight. I have to wonder if this was serious or simply a joke.
Huge iMac In Economy Class – Just Another Day On United Airlines
A man was pictured by his impressed seat mate setting up and utilizing a full size iMac on a United 737-800 in an exit row.
It’s a little hard to get the full sense of scale in the original photo, but for comparison, this is my work laptop next to this dude’s rig pic.twitter.com/ayzW6AkXim

I would think that if there was an emergency, it might be difficult to store that computer quickly and it could create a hazard if passengers trying to quickly evacuate have to step on or over a large monitor.
That said, the man earns an A+ for effort.
I appreciate large screens and love the idea of having more desktop space during a flight. But the burden and annoyance of dragging a large computer with keyboard and mouse strikes me as deal-breaker. Then again, I’ve also entertained the thought of bringing along large electronic devices onboard.
During the pandemic, I thought about bringing a toaster oven onboard United Airlines to heat the horrible sandwiches served to first class passengers myself, but thankfully flight attendants started heating them proactively (and it appears that toaster ovens are not permitted anyway…nothing like creating a fire risk onboard…).
CONCLUSION
I don’t know whether to congratulate the gentleman or question his sanity. In any case, I’m glad the middle stayed open, though that got me thinking about this classic Apple ad:
(H/T: View From The Wing)
Won’t be a joke when a DYKWIA goes full send on that seat recline and smashes the screen….. Only a matter of time.
I guess you missed the part about him being in an exit row.
Why not 🙂 I personally wouldn’t want to lug the iMac around the airport and I suppose it depends upon how long the flight was, but more power to him. At least he didn’t try and bring the 27″ one with him.
We did that because we lost a bet to a few guys in Forbes when I was in undergrad at Pton. We did it on a transcon flight to SFO and there were a lot of tech bros who were impressed with us and we just talked about Macs the entire time.
The real joke is him wearing what looks like a cloth mask
Ah, there always has to be one…
I’ll make it two. Now if these clowns would just stop F’ing each other in the rear we could get rid of Monkeypox too. They know how it’s spread but they can’t resist pulling a Mayor Pete on each other. And the media is giving them a pass on it.
What in God’s name are you talking about? Macs and Gays? Monkey pox and large screens? You are a sicko.
Matthew, can you at least police this garbage… please?
You sound jealous Dave Edwards. What does Monkey Pox have to do with the topic of discussion? Other people’s sexuality appears to be on your mind quite frequently……gee, I wonder why?
You are a classic member of the cult of Trump, transparent to everyone but your own stupid self. How pathetic….
It’s a cloth mask, it does nothing to prevent getting covid, you idiot.
Most masks, other than tight fitting K95 masks or similar, are not intended to prevent you from getting COVID, they are to prevent you from sneezing/coughing/exhaling large particles into the air and infecting others. It’s quite remarkable how poorly that seems to be understood even after 2½ years of this disease.
You are implying that sneeze/ coughing is the primary mode of transmission. Ignoring the fact that they are sitting pretty close and cloth mask does not offer much filter to regular breathing for transmission. Honestly I am surprised why people still wear cloth masks knowing what we know now. If needed , wear a good one.
Safe: No. Impressed: Very.
Who cares? Is your life that devoid of interesting stuff that you have to snap pics of a stranger and post the pics of the poor guy on a silly article? So judgemental, such a pointless article. I’ve seen far crazier than this relatively tame carry on.
Blah blah blah. Thanks for the click, pal.
I hope he wasn’t hoping for screen privacy.
How do you power such a thing in coach?
