Will JetBlue Announce Service To Europe On April 10th?

JetBlue has hinted about service to Europe for years. Will the big announcement finally come this spring?

Yesterday, JetBlue employees received the following “Save the Date” e-mail:

Save the Date

JETBLUE ALL HANDS

Join us for a chat about JetBlue’s vision and strategy followed by a Crewmember after-party.

Wednesday, April 10, 2019
New York City

Doors open at 1500ET

All Crewmembers are welcome to watch via webcast or attend in person.

Stay tuned for details on how to RSVP for you and a guest. Tickets to attend in person will be first-come first-served.

Last autumn, I wrote about Robin Hayes’ strong hint that JetBlue was exploring service to London and beyond. He said this:

I looked at some legacy brands and what they were charging a week out for business class between London and New York and it is obscene..eight, nine or ten thousand dollars. And, when we see that, we know that we can do that a lot cheaper….we think it’s a good opportunity, and when the time is right to take advantage, we may very well do that…

We have 85 neos that we can upgrade to long-range versions. Thus, we certainly have things in place when we are ready to push. We haven’t taken the final decision yet, but I think I’ve outlined the opportunity. I don’t want to tip people off about what we are doing…we expect some reaction. The transatlantic market comes down to three large carriers with huge amounts of power…we have to move intelligently and stealthily to make sure we’re successful.

CONCLUSION

There’s still the question of where, when, and how, but I think there is a good chance JetBlue’s “vision and strategy” will finally formally pursue service to Europe.

I can’t wait to fly JetBlue to London. How about you?

oh please – sure, once you’re on the plane it is a joy, but getting on the plane and into the air with them is *always* a p.i.t.a. They can barely run a third-rate ops just flying to/from SoFla : how on earth are they going to cope with TATL?

3rd rate. Obviously you know nothing about airlines.

I can’t wait to fly them to London, either. Mint is by far my favorite domestic product, and jetBlue my airline of choice for flights under three hours (above which, I want to be in business/first.) Missing: more Mint, more international routes, and a ff program with more international partners and reasonable redemptions for partner business & first.

Yes, please. Europe is an obscene market for premium cabins. And it is all about the alliances having control. Jet Blue has three strong markets to feed in JFK, BOS, and FLL. This is a no-brainer and it could finally bring some MUCH needed competition to Europe – and I imagine with the NEO this would be highly profitable not only point to point but in feeding their domestic flights. It makes much more sense compared to Norwegian, which does not have the brand recognition in the U.S. or the ability to feed a domestic operation.

Can’t wait either! The current airlines flying TATL are not very good. BA, VS, UA have terrible seats. For DL, AA it depends on the plane you’re on. Mint seats are the best(especially if you get the suites) and service is consistently good.

No they aren’t going to fly to Europe. The executive team is corrupt and has angered every single frontline employee. They give their people scraps. Treat your people right jetblue, until you do you will be unable to accomplish your lofty goals

Says the unionized pilot. You’re responsible for your unhappiness. You made your bed, now lie in it.

Also, they WILL be flying to Europe at some point. Hopefully not with you in the cockpit.

Hey SB. You act like a blue juice chugger that is so out of touch with reality that when it hits you it will be great to see the reaction on your dumb face. This is a business and you obviously have no clue how this is run. #Amateur

I’ve received several calls begging for help today. Funny all the hatred of the unionized pilots at this place changes when they are in desperation mode. Sadly all goodwill is gone. They can’t recover from this small irop because of short staffing and low morale…..keep your .2% jetblue. You need it more than me

I find it hard to believe we are actually going to Europe. The operation ranks dead last, DEAD LAST, in on time performance. Employee morale is at an all time low. The company leadership are hypocritical: they tell the world they are the “caring” airline but treat their employees so bad that literally every group has, or has begun to, unionize.

There are dozens of flight crew who have been out of work due to the covered up toxic fumes events that keep happening as well. That lawsuit is not far away and the public will finally be aware of what is really happening.

More likely, this move is to force a competitor to buy this failed experiment before the ship sinks all the way.

Crewmember London brief has already been done. Boston to Heathrow on the A321XLR with mint configuration to start (no date set, waiting for new 321). Widebodies being looked at for fleet expansion if London is a success (330 and 787).

I sure hope this happens. With Norwegian’s future seeming pretty tenuous these days, having a viable well priced non-legacy option would be wonderful.

FALSE. Fact checking is highly encouraged before posting an internal email sent directly from a Jetblue employee.
This post reeks of desperation creating room for speculation, fodder, and traffic. Meddle elsewhere.
“JETBLUE ALL HANDS” meaning all hands on deck is their chosen anti-union handbook strategy they’re slinging as propaganda. The email is to encourage their “direct relationship” toward every non-organized employee group: Ground Ops, Airport Ops, etc.

Dead last in on time arrivals(Jetblue arrives on time about 60% of the time).
Employee morale so low that virtually every workgroup has unionized, or has begun to.
A hypocritical management group that portrays they are a caring and good to work for airline but obviously are not. (See above as proof).
Dozens of flight crew out of work for toxic fume events that the company continues to hide from the public, but it is only a matter of time before the lawsuits catch up.
Yes. Europe is a great idea.

More likely, this is just a move to force the purchase of Jetblue by a competitor and end this failed experiment before it goes all the way under.

Yep that’s how it works. Maybe I’ll call delta and they will move me right into the same percentage seniority. I’d rather work to make jetblue a better company so we can recruit good pilots then start over. It’s so cute when ignorant people that know nothing about the career of a professional pilot chime in with the “just quit” nonsense

If you cant stand in the heat in the kitchen, then LEAVE!
Stop making everyone around you miserable. I mean, really. You sound like you want everything done for you and take everything you can only when it benefits you.
You were probably rejected by the other airlines…otherwise you’d be working for them.
Stop your whining. Do something to make your workplace better. Put your big-boy pants on and STFU!
    Geez….
