The Lovely Lilian At Andaz Munich

Human kindness is perhaps the greatest gift we can bestow upon others. At the Andaz Munich, Lilian bestowed that graceful lovingkindness upon my family, particularly Augustine.

Lilian At Andaz Munich Warms Our Heart And Soul Through Her Selfless Service

We were eating breakfast and Augustine was not eating. That’s very out-of-character for my usually-ravenous son. No orange juice. No croissant. No eggs. No fruit.

Instead, he sat quietly.

Then all of a sudden he vomited all over the table. I’m sure you parents reading can relate to the horror of this happening at all, let alone in a restaurant…during the pandemic.

Lilian H. rushed over. She works as an assistant manager in the hotel restaurant and had already treated us with incredible kindness. Instead of making us feel even worse, she gently told Augustine, who who now crying, that it was okay. She cleared away dishes from the table, even though some had vomit on them.

Augustine was really feeling bad. Before he could throw up again, we took him up to the room. Lilian followed us up to make sure we were okay. At our door, she asked if there was anything she could bring us (since the rest of us did not finish our breakfast). We weren’t hungry any longer at this point, but accepted her invitation to bring us coffee.

Presently, there was a knock at the door. Lilian was back and had made the most beautiful cappuccino and also brought some cake and fruit up. What a lovely gesture. She told us that she’d bring us up whatever we wanted throughout the day and knelt down beside Augustine and told him that she hoped he soon felt better.

It turned out Augustine just had an upset stomach, not COVID-19 (we tested a couple days later), but out of an abundance of caution we isolated him for the rest of our stay and proceeded back to our German residence directly from Munich, ending our road trip early.

Even so, as we prepared to check-out Lilian appeared again and when she saw that Augustine was feeling much better, she gave him a hug and asked if she could take him for a few moments.

Okay?

Lilian took Augustine to Bicicletta, the hotel coffee shop, and let Augustine select a treat.

What a beautiful gesture, a display of love that brought a tear to my eye.

Lilian is a gem and for the rest of my life I will be thankful for her kind gesture toward my son and to my entire family. And you can bet, though that was not her aim, that I do not look beyond the Andaz Munich when I need a hotel in Munich. Loyalty is solidified in moments like these.

Thank you Lilian. I’m sorry it has taken me some time to write up this tribute, but you are one of the finest people I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting.

I remember extraordinary service from FAs and hotel staff when our son was of similar age – first class in AA (yes really) Sofitel Philadelphia and R-C Georgetown.

Kindness is free and little things make a huge difference.
