I addressed the tremendous service I received in Lufthansa First Class in my recent 747-8 flight review, but feel such outstanding service deserves a special shoutout. The dynamic duo that served first class passengers on my flight to Frankfurt was flawless and should be an inspiration not only to flight attendants, but anyone who prizes diligence.
Lufthansa First Class Dynamic Duo
I’ve written before about Marcel Olschweski, a flight attendant that first served me on a flight to Los Angeles last year. His service was so over-the-top amazing that I wrote a story on him and we stayed in touch.
When Marcel let me know that he was working the final 747-8 flight for the season from Los Angeles to Frankfurt, I knew I could not miss this opportunity. Flying first class is generally a pleasure. Flying Lufthansa First Class is always a pleasure. But flying in first class with Marcel is simply blissful.
Marcel’s attention to detail is unparalleled. From the intricate execution of welcoming first class passengers onboard, pouring Champagne, preparing the dinner table, and conscientiously monitoring the cabin to anticipate needs before they even arise, Marcel brings masterful service levels to each flight.
But Marcel wasn’t the only one who so carefully and thoughtfully took care of the cabin. His colleague, Juliane Nungesser, provided equally amazing service. She too anticipated needs, never let a glass remain empty, and was a radiant spirit in a pandemic era that sometimes can be downright depressing.
It is not clear who inspired whom or whether both are just innately wonderful, but that is beside the point. Over the years I have experienced many wonderful flight attendants onboard. Never, in my memory, have I experienced a team that worked so well together as Juliane and Marcel. I mean, does the picture below not say it all?
I’ve flown dozens of Lufthansa First Class segments over the years and consistently received good service. But Juliane and Marcel stood out for their exacting attention to detail and for how well they worked together. I love it when people truly love they do: it always shows. It is often the small touches that separate the good from the great or the great from the best. In that sense, we can all work toward gradual improvements. While each modification may itself be small or seem inconsequential, together an extra touch here or additional care there changes everything.
CONCLUSION
What a lovely dynamic duo in Lufthansa First Class. Were they really the best? Yes. I feel I am competent to make this evaluation because I’ve flown first class on the best airlines in the world. With few exceptions, you name it, I’ve flown it. And while I’ve enjoyed amazing hospitality and superb service on so many airlines, there was something so special about this flight, which I will fondly remember for the rest of my life.
Thank you Juliane and Marcel! You are not only an inspiration to other flight attendants, but an inspiration to me. Service matters. Hard work matters. Precision matters. You inspire me to do better.
Ausgezeichnet!
It always goes down to the point: if you love to serve and show it to your guests/
customers. Even in the fullest of cabins, the attitude to serve with care and love to details . That is for me a true First class experience, even if it happens in Eco or a no star airline.
Hi, I appreciate your feedback to these two wonderful people. Honestly, when you fly first class it’s their duty to make you feel like a royalty on the plain when flying first class. But let’s not forget all the cabin crew serving business and economy class during these times, taking themselves into crowded canines serving people to let them reach their destination. Please also embrace the people delivering such an amazing job and letting us (people who don’t fly first class) getting to their destination meeting relatives.
I do embrace all who provide excellent service, including in economy class. It happens. Sadly, not often on Lufthansa…but that’s another issue.

Lufthansa needs to give them masks that match their uniforms.
Hi juli.
Make sure you write in to LH corporate.
As part of their training, all United flight attendants should have to fly Lufthansa first class once. Then some of them might get a clue about what good service is.
I’ve flown with Juliane Nungesser to Asia in 2019. Nice to hear from her – but she’s more beautiful without the mask 🙂
The flight with her and another colleague (unfortunately it wasn’t the gentleman mentioned) was pretty relaxing. Me and my colleague made a wine tasting with many detailed information – she used to be a wine princess … a Special kind of honorary in Germany.
