I’m “live-blogging” my spontaneous road trip to Las Vegas.
Augustine noticed the pyramid next door to our hotel and then became very excited when he noticed the hieroglyphics on the wall. Thus, the Luxor Hotel became a highlight of the trip for him without even saying there.
Luxor Hotel Las Vegas – Kids Love It
I was not exaggerating when I mentioned how much six-year-old Augustine is into Egyptology In this phase of his life. He frequently asks when we are going to Cairo and dragged us to the British Museum earlier this month in London because he wanted to examine the artifacts himself.
It was really rather cute when he saw the hieroglyphics etched onto the walls of the Luxor hotel and immediately began speaking about how he wanted to “excavate” there and “do my research.”
While we hope he will be a doctor of some kind, there are worse things to do in life than be an archeologist. I did not have the heart to break it to him that everything at Luxor was not at all ancient, so I played along as we walked over in the afternoon heat to Luxor in order to “explore.”
Augustine had a field day inside and we did not even go inside the museum…just the public areas. I think that if we return to Las Vegas, we will stay here…I know Augustine has already asked me several times.
On the other hand, with EgyptAir planning new nonstop service between Cairo and Los Angeles, traveling to Egypt will theoretically be easier than ever starting this winter.
Augustine wanted souvenirs from the Luxor…I told him he could get souvenirs for a small fraction of the cost when we were actually in Egypt.
But Augustine wants to get back to Sin City as soon as possible to stay at Luxor. We’ll see…
It’s truly a lesson in spending if you don’t always buy what Augustine wants.
Discovery starts with curiosity…you go aAugustine! Are you familiar with the ologies book series for children? Creative, fun and thought provoking….they have a couple on Egyptology…think he might like them!
Sounds like a fun morning:afternoon. Not spending money and letting kids explore is always fun. Pool time great too.
I went with my 6yo son to Vegas and he had a ton of fun throwing Pennie’s into every fountain he could find. Go figure.
We also found a mini theme park outside of the strip with go karts and a couple of rides. It was a really fun morning if you’re looking for things to do. About 15 mins drive from the strip (I don’t know the name). Had a small track he could ride himself then a bigger track for the two of us to ride on together. It was free for me to race as an accompanying adult 🙂
I love Egyptology. My kids also love it. They visited the British Museum and the Louvre and they wanted to spend the entire time in the Egypt area. Definitely in the bucket list to take them to Egypt.
Egypt just lost a lot of appeal to me with the news that I can no longer get outsized earnings when I fly cheap CAI-AUS-CAI trips in J on BA.
So enjoyed hearing about your son’s fascination with Egypt and its history! Hope your family is able to head to Cairo and beyond in the near future. Also, your “Live Blogs” regarding the Vegas mattress run have been enjoyable to read. Most of us can empathize with trips via automobiles, gas station stops for junk food in order to appease all those traveling with us, and eyelids that simply want (demand) to close. I trust the rest of your trip with Augustine will continue to be filled with fun and great memories.
Thank you for your kind comment!
I think that’s cool…Never know…he may have been reincarnated from then…Keep Exploxing lil one…
