Just days after tacking on fuel surcharges to Lufthansa flights, Aeroplan has decided to share the love:
Fuel surcharges to flight rewards on the following Star Alliance airlines will be effective as of the dates noted below:
November 30th, 2011: Asiana Airlines, Thai Airways International, All Nippon Airways, Austrian Airlines, LOT Polish Airlines, British Midland Airways
December 14th, 2011: Aegean Airlines, Japan Airlines, TAM Airlines, South African Airways, TAP Portugal Airlines
These are in addition to fuel surcharges to flight rewards on Lufthansa that became effective on November 9th 2011 at 7pm.
What does that mean for you?
If you are holding American Express or Aeroplan points looking to book a Star Alliance trip, these are the carriers that are still safe:
- Adria
- Air China
- Air New Zealand
- Brussels Airlines
- Continental Airlines
- Croatia Airlines
- Egyptair
- Scandinavian Airlines
- Spanair
- Swiss
- Singapore Airlines
- Turkish Airlines
- United Airlines
- US Airways
So while you still have a number of airlines that will not result in hundreds of extra dollars in costs, the list is dwindling and I expect more of the carriers above will be added as the months roll by.
So far so good from the U.S. carriers, but you can bet they are looking into doing something similar.
