A few weeks ago I took advantage of a very reasonable UA fare from Philadelphia to San Juan and booked a PHL-ORD-SJU-IAD-ORD-PHL mileage run. Rather than do an immediate turn, I decided to spend a couple days in the Caribbean. The region is littered with small island nations and the only question remained which one would I choose to visit (I’ve been to Puerto Rico in the past).
I chose Montserrat. With a population of only 5,000 and a terrain partially decimated by an active volcano (which is still active), my choice might be curious, but I just felt like going to a remote place that most people have never heard of it.
This evening I’ll fly on American Eagle to Antigua, stay overnight, and fly to Montserrat on a tiny prop plane in the morning. I’ll spend the day there, then overnight again in Antigua before flying back to Philadelphia on Saturday.
I’ve got the next segment of my South America trip report queued up for tomorrow and it is unlikely that I’ll check back in before Saturday evening.
Off to MNI!
What I’m most impressed with is your IAD to PHL section via ORD… nicely done. Have a good trip.
Antigua is one of my all-time favorite islands. Just lovely water and very little there (at least when I visited 5 years ago). Hope you had a great time.
@Liz: While I did enjoy my time in Antigua, I came back with over 60 bed bug bites! More on that later this week. Thanks for your comment.
@Darren: And IAD-ORD was a tri-cabin 767! Love UA’s C-Class seat.
