My Favorite Priority Pass Lounge Re-Opens In Bangkok

The Oman Air Lounge in Bangkok is open once again after a one-month “refurbishment” closure. For better or for worse, it remains virtually unchanged.

I’ve written positively about the Oman Air Lounge before. You can read my full review and meal review. I prefer the food in this lounge to even the Thai First Class lounge and make it a point to stop by this lounge every time I fly through Bangkok.

Reader SINJim altered me that the lounge closed on May 2nd and also shared some pictures of the “refurbished” lounge, which just re-opened a few days behind schedule.

During the month of may an into early June, a sign was posted outside the lounge door:

UPGRADING WORK IN PROGRESS

Oman Air Lounge closes for renovation from 02 May 2019 till 01st June 2019.
Please use the Air France Lounge located at concourse F, near gate F2.
We apologize for any inconvenience caused.

Would the small men’s restroom be fixed? Would the lounge get even better?

SINJim was in the lounge earlier today and sent me the pictures below. Put simply, nothing has visibly changed. He was told by staff that the lounge was shut down for electrical reasons. Everything else is exactly the same as before, save for a variance in Champagne.

CONCLUSION

While it would have been nice to have refurnished bathrooms in this lounge, I am quite pleased that it mostly unchanged…there was simply no need to update most of the lounge. Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport (BKK) is full of Priority Pass lounges, but I find this one the best…and I don’t think the latest “refurbishment” changes that at all.

Yeah. Packaged food and bad bathrooms! Awesome lounge. Way better than Thai 1st Class.

The food is better. That’s all I am saying.

Tbh a little disappointed by this lounge. Have been twice. Felt small and dark with a mediocre food selection. Surprisingly the Miracle first class lounge in concourse D was a step up. Much more spacious, great food offerings, some cooked to order, a pancake machine and a better selection of drinks. It is also more centrally placed within the terminal. Having also visited the Thai, Eva and Skyteam lounges this is my favourite. Sadly lacks the novelty of a Japanese style toilet that Eva has.

The depicted bottle is not Champagne. It is a spumante. The Italian name should be a dead giveaway.

What about the recently opened Turkish Airlines lounge? At least it lacks garish mood lighting.

The other Star Alliance lounges tend to be quite crowded in my experience. I also recall the EVA lounge being quite hot the last time I was there.

I’d choose this lounge over many of the others in BKK. I don’t want a faux gourmet experience : better to keep it simple and tasty. Let the champagne/caviar wannabe mob eat on the plane…most of us want something nutritious/healthy/tasty/ready.

The lounge closed for a month to change floor tiles, whole lighting (but same shade), reception area, male restroom floor tiles, pantry tiles and piping system due to aging airport building.
