Opening up a SunTrust Account for Delta SkyMiles, Take Two

Matthew Klint Posted onDecember 3, 2010 7 Comments

It has been almost two months to the day since I opened up a couple SunTrust banks accounts in order to take advantage of a generous Delta SkyMiles offer, but no miles have posted to my account. And it’s all my fault.

I’m not going to go into too much detail here, but I implore you to stay on top of your financial statements if you do not already do so. I have a financial manager who handles my money, but I neglected to tell him that I had opened up an account with SunTrust. It must have come as quite a surprise when he received account statements from SunTrust in the mail–so much of a surprise, apparently, that he closed the accounts without consulting with me…

But everything is now straightened out. I went down to Washington on Wednesday and re-opened my accounts. I again designated five family members as authorized users of my business account and was again promised 25,000 miles for each of them in my Delta account (at $55/each).

I know many of you have been waiting for weeks for me to report whether the bonus miles posted, but you’ll now have to wait a little longer. Sorry!

Remember, if you are interested in an account yourself, the SkyMiles promotion expires at the end of the year.

I opened my accounts in September and still have not received my miles for either of my cards. I called SunTrust and they blamed it on Delta. Delta of course blamed it on Suntrust.

I’ll keep you posted as to when I get my miles.

@Daniel: I’ve used the five cards, but the miles have not posted yet.

I think Ben’s miles have posted over at One Mile At a Time.

I’ve had a suntrust account for a few years and sometime last year I noticed the new advertisement that Suntrust had teamed up with Delta to have a Delta SkyMiles debit/check card. I went into a branch near me and switched my mainly used account to this new card getting the World Card which was offering 50,000 points at an annual cost of $55. I waited about 2 weeks and my card came right around Christmas. I used it immediately so I would be able to get my points. Jan came around and nothing, Feb came around and still nothing. I called Suntrust and was told that it takes 6-8 weeks from the end of the month when Suntrust sends a report to Delta to add the points so I had another 2-3 weeks to go. The week my points where suppose to be there I called again and was told that it was week 8 and that my points should be there by the end of the that week but that an investigation report was being started and she would call me back by Friday (2.25). No call came, so I called them. I was told that she would research, speak with the person I had already spoken to and get some information and call me back that day. No call. I waited all weekend, no call. So I called Tuesday spoke with a different manager who said he would do some research and either of the first two ladies (managers) I spoke with or him would get back to me that day. Now each time I called they tried to tell me that I hadn’t used my card. And everytime they came up with a different date of the first purchase, all of which they claim didnt take place until Jan. However, when they did checking they saw that I had used my card in Dec for more than $600. To date, points for my Dec purchases have posted, but not my bonus points. Then when bonus points did post it was the wrong amount as the promotion I signed up for was for 50,000 points and the not the 15,000 they are running now. Right now I am still waiting on a call back and a resolve to my issue.
