The Park Hyatt Chennai turned out to be my favorite Hyatt property we visited in India. Not only did I enjoy a wonderful suite upgrade, but great food and great service.
We arrived from Goa in the evening and took a taxi to the hotel, located about 20 minutes away. Check-in was a breeze and an associate informed me that I had been upgraded to a Park Executive Suite.
I loved the spacious, open lobby and common areas.
Park Hyatt Chennai Suite
Our suite had a large living room witch couch, desk, bookcase, and floor-to-ceiling windows. The bedroom included a king bed and chair and the oversized bathroom featured a jacuzzi tub and best of all, a heated toilet seat with bidet.
Since I still kept U.S. working hours, the living room became particular valuable to ensure I did not disturb Heidi while she was sleeping.

Park Hyatt Chennai Dining
I especially enjoyed the dining experience at this hotel, which centered on two great meals in particular.
Dinner in The Flying Elephant Bar
After getting settled, it was already after 8:00 PM and Heidi wasn’t hungry, so I just ate in the hotel bar the first evening. The Flying Elephant has a mix of food, including North Indian, Southeast Asian, Middle Eastern, and Italian. How’s that for a mix of cuisine? I had a beef kabob…it hit the spot.
Sunday Brunch in The Flying Elephant
The next morning we got up early to do some sightseeing, but returned for Sunday Brunch, which seems to attract many locals. The brunch offers a taste of everything, but you know wha turned out best? The stone oven pizza. The fish was also very tasty…and the desserts were decadent.
Beyond Madras in The Dining Room
The following evening, we tried the Beyond Madras menu at the Dining Room. You can see the menu below. Once again, another tasty menu.
Breakfast
The morning breakfast buffet was super not just for its quantity, but its quality. I appreciated the fresh-squeezed juices and smoothies and almond-covered French Toast.
Park Hyatt Chennai Spa + Fitness
We splurged a bit for massages, which were masterfully done. I am rarely willing to pay up for a massage at a luxury hotel, but it was a nice treat on a warm afternoon.
The fitness center offers great views and late-model equipment.
CONCLUSION
For this review in particular, I think the pictures mostly speak for themselves, hence the more limited dialogue. I appreciated the warm service, great food, and comfortable accommodations at this hotel. It is rare that I do not offer at least some constructive criticism about a property, but this was about as close to a perfect stay as possible.
@ Matthew — What about water?? I thought Chennai had none.
Lord above! You ate prosciutto with melon in India ? What/when was this: The Year of Living Dangerously? ( I’m not anti-India, in fact like it , but won’t tempt fate…even in Hyatt…eating stuff that’s notorious for causing illness). Melon is often infected with listeria.
Hotel looks lovely, though.
I’m not sure there IS such a thing as a great location in Chennai, but the Park Hyatt isn’t really walkable to anything, tho I did walk from the nearest train station (not an easy stroll but doable if you’re backpacked). There was a big subway station under construction not too far – still a dicey walk, as most are there. Taxi or tuk-tuk to one of the interesting evening shopping districts about 15 minutes,
Carpet is not very common in Chennai.
This hotel, compared to other hotels in Chennai, is like a 6 star hotel. I could imagine that the room rate is far, far higher than an office worker’s salary.
I stayed at the Shan Royal Hotel in Chennai. It had marble but looks ghetto compared to this hotel.
