Review: Park Hyatt Milan

Matthew Klint Posted onMay 4, 2018November 14, 2023 7 Comments

I last stayed at the Park Hyatt Milan in 2011 and posted this review. Seven years later, very little has changed (further validating why I post old trip reports). The hotel remains an amazing property in the heart of Milan.

Park Hyatt Milan Location

The Park Hyatt Milan is in the center of everything. The Duomo (cathedral) and the best shopping is all within short walking distance. You cannot beat the location.

Park Hyatt Milan Parking

Parking is E-X-P-E-N-S-I-V-E. €70.00/day (valet or self) plus a €5/day congestion charge. Good news for World of Hyatt Globalist members, though: parking is complimentary on free night stays. The hotel is a Category 7 property, so 30,000 points per night. Free parking softened the blow. Note cash + points stays are not considered “free nights” and parking fees would apply.

While street parking is available, it is very limited…almost not worth the effort. If you have a car and don’t want to pay for parking, I suggest leaving it at a Metro station a bit outside of town an taking the train in.

Park Hyatt Milan Service

Service sparkled at this property. Every associate was excellent and the front desk staff went out of their way to recognize my top-tier status. The associate who seated me for breakfast had memorized my name by the second day…always impressive for a hotel that was running full.

Park Hyatt Milan Guest Room

I scored a nice upgrade…with a catch. We checked in at noon and the suite would not be available until 5pm. Rather than make us wait, the hotel offered us a base room plus coffee while we were waiting for the base room to be cleaned (it took about 15 minutes):

a cup of coffee and a plant on a table

Unlike my spacious terrace suite last time, this room (502) was very small…perfect for honeymooners, but not for two businessmen.

The room contained a queen bed, desk, and chair.

Also available: an illy espresso machine.

a coffee machine with a tray of white cups and spoons

a group of containers with red green and brown caps

We had an interior view of the domed La Cupola below. Note the paint on the exterior walls is in desperate need of refresh.

The bathroom was almost as large as the bedroom:

I’ll review our suite upgrade in a subsequent post. If you do not have status however, and book a base room, expect something like this.

Park Hyatt Milan Breakfast

Breakfast was a treat each morning in La Cupola, with good coffee, a nice buffet, and an excellent a la carte menu.

The buffet included a large assortment of cold items and a few hot items like eggs and bacon (which were not present last time I stayed at the property):

a buffet table with food on it

a table with bread and toasters

a table with different types of food on it

I ordered off the menu dishes including Eggs Benedict with salmon and avocado, an omelette, and French Toast.

18EUR for berries (but free due to my Globalist status):

Note that Globalist members cannot order room service on a complimentary basis.

Park Hyatt Milan VUN Andrea Aprea

I wanted to have dinner at VUN, the hotels’ Michelin two-star restaurant. But I was far too late to score a table and my status did me no good here. No matter, we had a great dinner anyway at a nearby restaurant.

Besides, this restaurant is also better enjoyed with a spouse or friend, not business colleague.

Park Hyatt Milan Room Service

The room service menu, which is identical to La Cupola menu is available 24/7. My colleague slept through breakfast one morning and ordered a pizza in the room:

Park Hyatt Milan Dry Cleaning

Our weekend in Milan was at the midpoint of our business trip and my colleague had some clothes to wash. Unfortunately, it is not cheap to have clothes laundered or dry cleaned at this hotel:

Park Hyatt Milan Fitness Center + Spa

The fitness center and spa are unchanged from seven years ago. The equipment is varied and more than enough for a good workout. Running maps are also available if you care for a jog outdoors.

There is no pool, but a nice hot tub with gold tiles.

Inside each locker room are lockers, a steam room, and complimentary toiletries.

The shower in the locker room is also excellent, with water available in all directions. I used it after my steam bath.

CONCLUSION

This is a tremendous property…there is a reason it is in the Category 7 tier. As far I am concerned, there is nowhere else I would rather stay in Milan. I look forward to returning.

Bummer that room service is no longer complimentary for top tier elites. My wife and I loved the room service breakfast, and it was complimentary for Diamonds in May 2016.

Great review, and I agree regarding the quality of this property. Truly lovely!

It’s a nice property, I stayed a few weeks ago, and enjoyed it. But the Mandarin Oriental up the street blows the doors off the Park Hyatt.

Definitely worth using a DSU/TSU if you have them; plus C&P can be a sweet spot and make this fantastic hotel affordable ( but yes, no free parking at that rate).

Staying there with my family in the summer. Nice way to burn my Hyatt points I got by using my Chase Rewards and the Hyatt card. As for laundry, if it is just underwear and socks I rather buy new at a department store nearby. I can guarantee you it will be way cheaper than getting yours cleaned by the hotel.
