United is tinkering with the treats in first class on North America flights and will be introducing cookies and scones from Chicago-based Poppie’s Baking Company on Thursday.
The baking company’s chocolate chip cookies will be offered with United’s lunch and dinner services. Scones in three flavors — cinnamon chip, cranberry raisin and lemon apricot — will replace the muffins that were served for breakfast. The new offerings will be available on flights starting Thursday.
A United spokesman said the switch to Poppie’s products is part of an ongoing effort at the carrier to work with smaller businesses that offer good products.
Sounds good to me, though I’ll reserve final judgment until I taste them. I just hope the scones and cookies will be served warm…
Didn’t really dig on the muffins but not a fan of scones. Reserving judgment on the cookies until I’ve tried them. But the reason for the change almost certainly ISN’T because they ‘wanna work with small businesses’.
This should be a big improvement. United’s current cookies are nasty (at least compared to American’s).
@Gary: I didn’t care for the bran muffins either, but do like scones. I’m optimistic this will be a positive improvement.
@Gene: I guess I live a sheltered life because I love UA’s cookies and haven’t tasted AA’s! 😉
