As uncontrolled fire ravages through parts of the Hawaiian island of Maui, residents are finding it easier to escape thanks to $19 one-way airfare to Neighbor Islands on Hawaiian and Southwest Airlines.
Hawaiian + Southwest Offering $19 Airfare From Maui To Neighbor Islands
Dora, a powerful Category 4 hurricane, is was about 800 miles southwest of Honolulu. It has caused windy conditions in Hawaii, including on the island of Maui. Coupled with dry conditions and low humidity, multiple fires have broken out, with one coming so quickly that a dozen people had to jump into the ocean in order to escape the danger. The town of Lahina, once the Capital of the Hawaiian Kingdom, has been razed. Many Hawaiians and Hawaiian residents have lost their homes and animals.
As of this morning, 36 people have been reported dead with authorities only beginning to sift through the wreckage these fires have wrought. Cellular phone towers are down and most 911 services are online.
As fire crews seek to contain the flames, residents and visitors are being urged to evacuate. Those in the most vulnerable fire-prone areas have already been bussed to neighbor towns, but airlines including Hawaiian and Southwest have now joined the effort to transport people to safety.
Both carriers are offering $19 nonstop interisland fares ($1 extra for your pet). The usual luggage limits have also been relaxed, giving agents more discretion in trying to accommodate as many bags as possible for fleeing passengers.
Southwest is also purportedly offering discounted tickets from Maui to the US mainland, though pricing will vary by market.
Maui is not a tiny island: most of the island remains unharmed. Nevertheless, several towns are devastated, with whole neighborhoods destroyed by flames. As resources are limited, if you are heading to Maui on vacation this would likely be a good time to reconsider.
CONCLUSION
Fires have ravaged parts of Maui, prompting Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest Airlines to offer $19 fares to Neighbor Islands. Our thoughts are with those who have lost their homes, businesses, and in some cases, their loved ones.

And these are the same people who cheer devastating hurricanes in Florida right?
If libtards didn’t have double standards they wouldn’t have standards at all.
Juvenile, lazy, and unoriginal attempted “burn.” *YAWN*
Seriously…go f*ck yourself, you total prick
I’ll take that as a yes
The only people I’ve heard of cheering Florida Hurricanes were cheering the University of Miami football teams.
I’d seriously check how reliable your information is.
This article struck me as odd when I originally read it. Charging people to evacuate? So if your house and its contents were destroyed and you had no money, you have to PAY to be evacuated. Somethings not right.
