Though we have been to Bangkok, Thailand more times than we can count, my family continues to search out new places to eat and are rarely disappointed. On this occasion, we found Lhong Tou and enjoyed their dim sum menu.

Location
Situated on the edge of Bangkok’s Chinatown is the beautiful Lhong Tou cafe. From Sukhumvit, the cost is about 100 baht in a taxi, or about $3USD.

Wait
There was just one couple in front of us waiting for a table, despite such, the wait was an accurate 30 minutes at about 3 pm. There is a machine in front of the restaurant that will handle the wait for you (I honestly wish more places had this). Due to the unique seating style of the restaurant, you can choose whether your table is lower level or upper level, the elevated tables the made the restaurant famous.
Food
The food was exceptional. Dishes are small and meant for sharing as dim sum. We ordered eight different dishes, one of them twice and they were all amazing, though some more than others. The drinks too were impressive, the lemon iced tea was the best I have ever had anywhere.
Everything we had was excellent, though the spring rolls (not pictured) and Mini BBQ buns wouldn’t make the cut on our next visit – that was mostly down to an abundance of food and such remarkable alternatives.
Value
We over ordered as we often do at new places assuming they can’t all be home runs. This was pretty close to a perfect game, however. The cost of our meal was 927 baht or about $32 before tip at the time of the purchase. That even included an extra iced tea to-go. It’s an amazing value for money, better than Tim Ho Wan in my opinion and just a matter of time before the Michelin folks take notice. Get in while you can.

Have you been to Lhong Tou? What was your favorite dish? Do you have a different spot in Bangkok’s China town you prefer?
Kyle- looks amazing. How do you decide on ice for your drinks in Thailand (or anywhere else in SE Asia)? I’m always a little leery of getting sick after one bad experience in the Middle East.
That’s a good question. In the case of restaurants like this one, they will use purified water though if we are drinking just water we order a bottle anyway. However, many street vendors selling fruit and other items that sit on or require ice, we pass on. We will buy a whole mini pineapple for example but won’t buy one on ice.
