Although the Concorde has not flown for almost seven years, a group of aviation enthusiasts are attempting to return the jet to flight in a heritage capacity.
A recent engine check found the engines of one bird in "perfect" condition.
The tentative plan is to utilize the Concorde as part of the opening ceremony for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
For the same reasons it is not flying now, I doubt we’ll see scheduled Concorde service in the future. Sadly, it marks a step back in the progress of air travel, but it doesn’t make sense to keep a service available that loses so much money each year.
In a "heritage" capacity, however, perhaps some money can be made. I regret never flying the Concorde as a youngster and I know there are thousands in my boat. Offering charter Concorde flights would likely insure that the planes go out full or at least break even. I shall anxiously be monitoring this news story.
Lots of details concerning this on my website, Heritage Concorde. I am part of the team working on the project.
