Review: Biman Bangladesh “Maslin” Business Lounge Dhaka

After a lackluster check-in experience that took nearly an hour, I was bracing for the worst. Just how bad would the Biman Bangladesh Business Class lounge be? Turns out, not bad at all.

After passport control, I followed the “Executive Lounge” sign upstairs where I found four lounges, including the Biman Bangladesh “Maslin” Lounge. From the outside, the lounge appeared modern.

Stepping inside, I noted the new desk and large chandelier and thought, wow, this doesn’t look bad at all.

Then I looked right. This was the lounge–

The lounge is currently undergoing renovation and so while I do think it will be a nicer and more spacious lounge when finished, right now it is a bit crowded.

I had eaten breakfast in the hotel and wasn’t all that hungry, but there was a fair spread of food available from both the east and west:

a refrigerator with drinks and cans

a group of silverware on a marble counter

food in a buffet line

a table with food on it

Surprisingly, a barista was on call to make coffee and whipped up a nice cappuccino, though the texture was closer to a flat white.

a cup of coffee and a bottle of water on a table

Seating was extremely limited and I shared my small round table with two strangers. There were power outlets on the floor (no adaptor needed) and wi-fi functioned well in the lounge.

At this time, there are no bathrooms or showers in the lounge, though both will eventually be available.

Since check-in took so long and I wanted to be among the first to board, I did not spend long in the lounge. When I left, the lounge had become even more crowded:

CONCLUSION

Biman’s Maslin lounge exceeded my expectations. While the lounge is quite small at the moment, it is clear that Biman is investing in it. Fast internet and good coffee make it worthwhile and if you come hungry, there is a large selection of food.

Food looks better than those at BA Terminal 5 lounges for sure.

Since the lounge is so small and crowded maybe its tagline can be “The Maslin Lounge: Where you meet as strangers, but leave as friends” 🙂

Nice to know… “Fast internet and good coffee make it worthwhile and if you come hungry, there is a large selection of food.” And in reality, you can’t ask for more on a place as this.
