Review: Grand Hyatt Jakarta

Grand Hyatt Jakarta - 47

Although I spent only a night at the Grand Hyatt Jakarta, I enjoyed every moment of my stay there. Well, almost every moment.

I arrived late and an agent quickly checked me in, encouraging me to hurry up to the Grand Club before the evening reception ended.

Grand Hyatt Jakarta Room

I was assigned room 1906.

My room was two floors below the Grand Club and fairly sparse, but it had everything I needed. I slept like a baby in the bed and the internet allowed me to keep in touch with clients and loved ones over FaceTime audio or Skype. I appreciated the trio of universal plugs on the desk.

The bathroom was spacious, containing a large bathtub and separate shower and water closet.

Hyatt Jakarta Grand Club

The lounge is wonderful at this hotel. I arrived in time for the evening dinner service and particularly appreciated the caesar salad station. There were a number of other hot and cold items, adult beverages and soft drinks.

The following morning, the salad station had been transformed into an omelet station and I enjoyed a very tasty omelet with a cappuccino, homemade yogurt and fresh juice.

Staff were eager to help and come up to each guest offering a choice of beverage.

The lounge is huge and never appeared full. There is a smoking room on the far side of the lounge.

Grand Hyatt Jakarta Restaurants

I was in a frenzied work mode during my stay in Jakarta and did not venture out into any of the hotel restaurants. Not only did the Grand Club have me covered, but I had no desire to sit alone in a restaurant.

But, the hotel does have a number of restaurants including:

  • Grand Café – Indonesian/International
  • Seafood Terrace
  • Sumire – Japanese
  • C’s Steak and Seafood – steakhouse
  • Fountain Lounge – high tea, cocktails
  • Burgundy – bar, coffee, smoking

Grand Hyatt Jakarta Spa + Fitness

The fitness center is exceptional — very large with modern equipment. There is even a juice bar.

Inside the men’s locker room is a whirlpool, sauna, and steam room. The sauna was quite annoying because there was a TV blaring inside it. It was a local station, but even it was BBC or CNN it would have been an annoying distraction.

Ramadan Warning

If you happen to be there during Ramadan, be advised that restrictions on massage and alcohol are in place–

How I Paid?

My nightly rate was $140, but taxes pushed it up to $168. Rates often run above $200/night. Had I used points, it would have been 12,000 miles or 6,000 miles + $75.

CONCLUSION

A very fine hotel in the heart of Jakarta. This is by no means a budget hotel — if you want cheap, I noticed hotels for as little as $5/night on hotels.com. But I enjoyed my night here.

I understand the preference for Hyatt from the perspective of getting points but Indonesia and SE overall is the perfect place to try way more luxury brands than Hyatt for almost the same price. You can stay at Mandarin, Peninsula, Raffles, etc… for amazing prices.

Fair point. Same thing in Bangkok. I just wanted to try it and I did like it a lot minus the spa, but next time I’ll try one of the others.
