Orlando is flush with hotels but after trying a few out, the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress is among the most impressive. We were upgraded to a bi-level suite and it was extraordinary.

Location
Just outside the Walt Disney World Resort official property is the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress Resort. The location is ideal for those staying off theme park property, surrounded by restaurants with quick access to the interstate, the hotel offers a true resort experience without the added cost of being a Disney property. For those visiting the parks, this is not Disney good neighbor property so while convenient, it does not have access to Disney Magic Hours. The hotel is not far from Lake Buena Vista.

Guest Room
This is one of the single-most impressive hotel rooms I have come across in the US. I asked My Hyatt Concierge about which property she’d recommend and she was emphatic about this hotel. I asked why and she mentioned the grounds, proximity but most importantly, this incredible bi-level suite. This year I’m embracing spending my upgrades early and often and it was worth it.
Living Room/Dining Room/Kitchen
The room has a pair of entry points, first inside of the kitchen and the second, a double door entry off the foyer. The kitchen featured a full-size refrigerator, a pair of coffee machines (Nespresso and Keurig) with a ridiculous volume of coffee, a breakfast bar, plates, and dishes.
The living room has large couches and ample space for a big family to gather. Near the extensive outdoor terrace was a formal dining room that opened up to the loft and stairs to reach it. We’ve had other bi-level suites in our travels around the world but this one felt particularly decadent. We have stayed in hotel rooms smaller than the outdoor space. Everything about this suite felt opulent and we only regretted that we didn’t have the opportunity to host guests during our visit.
The ground floor also featured a guest restroom which I really appreciate.
Bedroom
Upstairs is an open lofted space was the bedroom and master bathroom. The bedroom, standard otherwise for a Hyatt Regency hotel added the benefit of a small balcony and a fold-out couch.
Bathroom
The master bathroom in this suite was fantastic. It featured a large walk-in closet, dual vanities, a soaking tub, and shower. One minor complaint is that the bathroom on the upper level didn’t have a door, but others might require to use the closet, access the vanities, shower, or tub. The door to the bathroom itself is a hanging slider that never really closes, privacy when using the restroom is available downstairs.
Another small concern was the general lack of privacy if we were to host guests who may be downstairs. As there is no wall between the stairs and opening above the dining room, changing clothes, and separating private from public space would be less than ideal. That said, the stairs provide some natural barriers as guests are unlikely to climb them unannounced.
Breakfast/Lounge
We’d heard great things about the lounge service for the evening cocktail hour but were otherwise occupied. Located on the 12th floor, the lounge is compartmentalized into a small room (great for families with young kids), an outdoor space, and a traditional lounge space. World of Hyatt Account Globalist members are eligible for entry.
***Here is the part where the commenters enter the fray***
The breakfast was a disappointment. For an 18-floor property, especially one that otherwise impresses everywhere else, breakfast was uninspired. Eggs were the only available hot dish. Bagels, croissants, danishes, cereal, fruit, and deli meat are about the extent of it. It’s not accurate to say that there wasn’t enough food – there was. It’s more that there was just no effort and few options. Yes, this is very much a first-world problem, but this is a first-world blog. We didn’t return for breakfast again. It was the definition of a minimum viable product.
Property
The grounds were really impressive. We stayed on an award so we didn’t pay the resort fee, but it’s safe to say that families would really find value in their resort fee. Lake Windsong is at the edge of the property available for kayaking, and various water sports, and sand volleyball. A golf course is on the other side of the lake. We couldn’t find the rock climbing wall the property listed as an amenity.
The pool area really is stunning, even in a city known for having exceptional, family0friendly pools. The hotel had a number of different swimming pools to offer guests an adults-only experience for a drink and poolside service or something more kid-friendly with zero-entry wading pools and water slides. It wouldn’t replace a trip to either Disney or Universal’s exceptional water theme parks but it’s more than enough to satisfy for days in which a visitor does not have tickets to a theme park.
Wrapping around the property is a number of pools, grottos, cabanas, and even a small waterslide. The lobby also featured a macaw which our daughter loved seeing.
Value
The hotel is priced right at around $200/nt (plus resort fee) or 12,000 points. If you are a Globalist and have a chance to snag an upgrade like we did, the value when redeeming points is incredible. We didn’t have to pay for parking, the resort fee and it was fully worth burning a suite upgrade this early in the year. That said, most visitors to the property would benefit from the property being a Disney Good Neighbor Hotel and this is the sole deterrent from making it our only hotel in Orlando. We had a great time at the Hyatt Regency Grand Cypress.

The property did go through a refresh several years ago which helped though it is well used for conferences and visitors to the DW. Frankly I am not as enthused as some about this place the clubroom offerings are “ok” and agree on breakfast which for me is an important meal opting for restaurant ( Waffle House just down the road) rather than disappointing lounge visits. The lounge is large and open too many children unsupervised staff doesn’t do anything about them.
Property is a bit off the beaten path
Hi! Great blog. I am looking to book that suite and I was wondering what room # you stayed in specifically.
@Jack – It took some research, but I found it: 1705.
