“Rosa Parks” Refuses To Wear Mask On Southwest Airlines, Then Compares Herself To Anne Frank While Being Removed

A California woman refused to wear her mask on Southwest Airlines flight. When flight attendants and passengers protested, she compared herself first to Rosa Parks, then Anne Frank.

Woman Who Refused To Wear Mask On Southwest Airlines Compares Herself To Rosa Parks And Anne Frank

Onboard Southwest flight 2265 from Dallas (DAL) to Long Beach (LGB), a woman was observed by a flight attendant with her mask off for an extended period. She was told to put her mask on and refused, claiming that she was “actively” eating and drinking.

A supervisor came onboard, appeared to give her one more chance to put on her mask, but when she continued to insist she was eating and drinking (holding up a water bottle at one point), the supervisor asked her to gather up her things and disembark.

She refused, asking instead for an explanation as to why she had to keep her mask on if she was eating and drinking. The supervisor was not playing that game and informed the flight attendants to deplane the aircraft.

In these situations, airlines will generally remove all other passengers in case physical force is necessary to remove the problematic passenger.

https://www.tiktok.com/@therbcoach/video/7081066981490822446?is_from_webapp=1&sender_device=pc

The woman really gave herself away when she started linked herself to Rosa Parks, a civil right activist who refused to stand up on a Birmingham bus when there were seats available in the “white” section, and Anne Frank, a Jewish girl who was murdered by Nazis in Holland during WWII.

“We have to take a stand. It probably didn’t make sense for Rosa. It probably didn’t make sense for Anne Frank either.”

That prompted anger from other passengers, especially a pair of black women sitting nearby. Southwest eventually got her off, refunded her, and has banned her from flying Southwest again. The flight left Dallas 50 minutes lates and arrived into Long Beach 47 minutes late.

Invoking Parks and Frank make clear this was not about eating her bananas and apples, but about taking a “stand”…

A Southwest spokesperson noted:

“The remaining passengers scheduled to travel on flight 2265 continued to LGB, arriving nearly two hours behind schedule. We apologize for the inconvenience to others scheduled on this flight, as we worked to ensure all customers were compliant with the federal mask mandate.”

CONCLUSION

It’s so easy to insert a Karen joke here, but I won’t…there are far too many good Karens.

But what a piece of work. As much as I dislike the mask mandate ,I don’t admire this childish act of civil disobedience. If she doesn’t want to wear a mask in the final days of the mask mandate, she can drive…comparing her selfishness to Rosa Parks and Anne Franks is offensive indeed.

Meanwhile, now Europe follows actual science instead of Fauci SCIENCE and is now enjoying mask free flights in more and more routes each passing day.

And oh by the way, US is not planning to drop mask and testing requirement any day soon.

Not excusing this lady’s issues though.

That is not true. I live in Europe and fly a lot for work, and am still required to wear a mask in the airport and onboard.

There is no study that conclusively demonstrates that masks are effective at preventing spread of COVID-19 or influenza-like illnesses. Some studies even showed that cloth masks made wearers more likely to get infected than those not wearing any masks. The public health establishment operated on this basis until the “Science” somehow changed in spring of 2020. Neither masking nor social distancing did anything to stop the spread of SARS-CoV-2. Disobeying nonsensical laws meant to demonstrate state power rather than do anything to benefit the citizenry is just.

Their anger and ‘outrage’ has nothing to do with wearing a mask, and everything to do with their ignorance and how miserable, angry, and unhappy they are with their lives. Speaking truth to power requires bravery and integrity, and the cabin crew’s nonsensical persecution of her exposes the power lust and abuse I have seen so often on flights lately and exposes the absurdity of masking laws. I admire and salute her. We need more of her.

But Fox News is telling you that they don’t, so now you’re parroting their ridiculous line. It must be incredibly embarrassing to be you on a daily basis.

          • cargocult
            April 7, 2022 at 6:09 pm

Do a search on studies regarding efficacy of masking in surgical theaters and you will find that there is no evidence for there effectiveness. From one paper:

“Based upon the findings of this review, National Institute for Health and Care Excellence guidelines state that there is ‘limited evidence concerning the use of non-sterile theatre wear’ such as surgical masks when trying to minimise the risk of surgical site infection, although there was an overall ‘consensus that wearing non-sterile theatre wear is important in maintaining theatre discipline’.”

Now, this paper later states that lack of evidence of effectiveness is not evidence of lack of effectiveness, which is a reasonable statement. What is unreasonable is your blind assertion that masks work, in the surgical theater or otherwise. In Sweden anesthesiologists are not required to wear masks in the theater. Consider that preventing spread of droplets is different from preventing the spread of an aerosol. Do you have any idea how masks are supposed to work? I’ve read dozens of papers regarding mask efficacy since before COVID-19 because I was curious whether the East Asian practice of masking while sick was effective. The evidence for masks preventing the spread of influenza-like illness is inconclusive at best.

I wore masks starting in late January 2020 while traveling out of an “abundance of caution” (I was in Singapore just after the super spreader event at the Grand Hyatt) but I quickly figured out that it was pandemic theater. Mandating masks is a political power play that hurts the populace the state claims to be protecting. Bootlickers like you want to virtue signal to increase your status among your fellow authoritarian lackeys, but those who follow the actual science aren’t fooled. Keep up with the baseless insults. We need a new UA-TDS around here.

Search for “A cluster randomised trial of cloth masks compared with medical masks in healthcare workers” and you will see that they found cloth mask group got sick with ILI at a rate higher than even the unmasked control group.

Search for “Nonpharmaceutical Measures for Pandemic Influenza in Nonhealthcare Settings—Personal Protective and Environmental Measures” and you will see the authors state, “In pooled analysis, we found no significant reduction in influenza transmission with the use of face masks.”

SARS-CoV-2 spreads via aerosols, which masks, unless they are tightly fitted N95 respirators, are pretty much useless in mitigating. If you believe masks work, you must think that acrylic screens also magically stop aerosols from spreading, too. If anything, they impede air flow and make things worse.

I wish I had a link to a WHO survey of masking studies from 2019. It showed that there was no clear evidence of mask efficacy. Why do you think the WHO didn’t recommend masks for so long into the pandemic? Mandated lockdowns, social distancing and masking were NEVER imposed before in modern times. Now the world is in a rush to imitate Red China in every which way it can. Keep swallowing the authoritarian statist propaganda, though, comrade. Comply your way to liberty. It works 100%, just like the vaccines!

        COVID – Real.

Vaccines – An important, useful countermeasure, but demonstrably overrated and largely becoming obsolete without an update for variants.

Natural Immunity – Underrated, but far from perfect, and it requires the caveat of having to fully experience what one is trying to prevent before it has any effectiveness.

Masks – Next to useless, especially if not the right kind, worn the correct way, consistently and with the appropriate related PPE.

Yeah, there’s a risk, and a bigger one based on a number of criteria and complicating factors. Yet, is perpetual fear our endgame here?

By which time it was too late) and by going deaf lost his entire career, had his life turned on its head, had and still suffers from multiple MH issues related to a permanent and life changing event that was ( as confirmed by an audiologist) totally avoidable I’d love to point out that your complaining & claiming how offended you are about someone having a differing opinion to you just coz one of your parents spent 10 days in hospital is likely that very same thing to others who’ve read your, imho, self-centred and narcissistic comment

Hardly a unique or life changing occurance but somehow you feel it qualifies you to chastise others and be offended that anyone has the audacity to hold a contrary opinion based on one of your parents coming down with it and the other needing a week & a half in hospital. I’ve lost a good friend to cancer coz they couldn’t get seen for treatment and another who had a double mastectomy coz she couldn’t even get a face2face despite the indignity of having to webcam her boobs to her Dr and being able to show a lump.

Tens of Millions more have ended their lives coz of lockdowns/ losing their jobs/ being trapped with abusive partners. Likely the same massive number find themselves like me. Life completely and irrevocablely changed by those chasing the narrative more than what they should be. Yes. I remember when I learned about tyranny and authoritarianism. This is exactly what I envisioned it would be.

The tyrants would ask me “will you wear a mask on the flight from Dallas to Long Beach?” and I would say “yes”. And they’d ask a bunch of times, but I’d lie every single time– “Yes, yes, yes” I’d say. Then when I got on the plane, they’d see that I had lied. Then the tyrants would refuse to fly me to Long Beach with some sort of authoritarian bullshit about “not honoring my part of the agreement”. Then in a real show of ruthless tyranny, they’d refund the money I paid for the ticket, and discharge me out into the freedom of the world where I can be mask free in almost any other place.

Sure, then I could drive from Dallas to Long Beach with my guns in my lap– these tyrants don’t restrict those kinds of freedoms. I mean, I’d still be a free person of course, and have all of my other rights, and money and stuff. I just wouldn’t the right to lie about wearing a mask when flying from Dallas to Long Beach.

We must fight against these injustices. People should not be required to honestly agree to any sort of behavior restriction on airplanes.

Diverging political views aside, using the term “Brandon” when everyone knows who they are referring to tells us everything we need to know about one’s maturity and intellect. Don’t forget the obligatory but nonsensical “LOL!”

Taiwan (Republic of China, not to be confused with the People’s Republic of China) temporarily banned eating and drinking on trains but has resumed allowing it. They are sensible. Taiwan goes by weeks and months with no Covid deaths and not very many cases. They do test people. Taiwan had a big shortage of vaccine early on but the supply has caught up with the population size. In addition, Taiwan is not a dictatorship rounding up people with Covid like the the PRC.

Rosa Parks sat where she did with the express purpose of being arrested. When the police boarded the bus, she went with them willingly. If you aren’t willing to get arrested you’re a not a protestor, you’re a dilettante.

Retired F/A for a legacy airline with 30 yrs experience in all phases of flight and cabins: yes complain, stand your rights, get on social media. Hold signs, call ppl names. Ban the bra, stop the war, etc….but remember Holmes that covid is airborne and even if you’re vaccinated you can still get a mild form of covid and it’s variants unless you have a preconditions ailment or compromised immune system…..keep mask o. Inflight.

As a 30 year major airline captain, here’s my take on this particular Karen and all the MAGA-moron commoners here. Airline employees don’t get to choose which regulations they enforce. All these idiots on airplanes refusing to wear masks might as well be arguing with a cop who’s giving them a ticket that speeding laws don’t apply to them. It’s completely nonsensical and counterproductive. If you don’t want to wear a mask, don’t get on my airplane. It’s that simple. The persecution complex and existential struggle of good vs evil that Fox News has convinced you you’re part of doesn’t actually exist. Face it, you’re a person who doesn’t really know anything at all about immunology or viruses, and you just don’t really want to wear a mask, and you’re willing to inconvenience 200 other people because you never fully grew up. Grow up.

So, you are in favor of masks forever, Mark? Because based upon your post about virii (and this virus is never going to be eradicated), it seems you are in favor of never eliminating the mandate

Your own prejudices are on full display in your question. I never said or implied that. What I said was airline crewmembers are not at liberty to decide which rules to enforce and which ones they don’t. So when a childish MAGA-Karen decides she doesn’t want to wear a mask, we don’t have any discretion. You WILL be kicked off the airplane. That’s my main point, Fox News has convinced these people they’re in some kind of holy war, when really they’re just selfish, childish assholes who apparently enjoy inconveniencing people and being the center of attention.

You’re right, Mark. You don’t have discretion as to which regulations to follow. The issue is with the regulation itself

You also talk about preconceived bias. Look in the mirror. Yours comes off even more with your name calling. Those who resort to name calling usually don’t have the intellect to win an argument. Not sure that is a trait that a captain should have

            April 7, 2022 at 2:29 pm

I feel name calling for people like yourself is fully appropriate after 2 1/2 years of putting up with all this bullshit on my airplanes. You, and people like you, are apparently incapable of learning. I’m not sure how that makes me guilty of preconceived bias like you say. I’m talking about behaviors, actual behaviors on airplanes. I don’t have any bias against people until they behave like an idiot. You now acknowledge that crewmembers don’t have discretion as to which regulations enforce. So what does that mean? It means that the losers who get on and refuse to wear masks must know they’re going to get kicked off the airplane, they therefore must know they’re going to inconvenience hundreds of people. I really don’t understand how you can defend that.

“Mark” sounds like the guy who flew the Germanwings plane into a mountain. I hope someone who knows who he is reports him to the airline he works for, assuming he is actually a pilot. I’m seriously concerned someone with his apparent hatred toward half the population is flying a plane. This is a serious situation and hopefully Matt sees the danger to the flying public this guy could possess.

Because I and all the other crewmembers are completely sick of dealing with Kindergartners in adult bodies who think rules don’t apply to them. That somehow makes me “unhinged”. You should appreciate that we follow the rules for your safety. All of them. Arguing that somehow the person following the rules is unhinged and the people not following the rules aren’t, only makes sense in the bizarro world of Republicans.

Mark gives credence to the idea that you don’t need to be very smart or reasonable to drive a flying bus. You just need to be able to feed the dog who is in the cockpit to make sure you don’t touch any of the controls.

Comparing wearing a mask to Anne Frank, who lived in a closest in constant fear of death from NAZI’s and was finally murdered along with most of her family? Is this woman completely nuts? Rhetorical question. Unbelivealbey insulting and degrading to even dare compare herself to Anne Frank.

These people who did this comply with the mask mandate to even get through security and the whole time they are boarding. Then when they are seated or in the air decide to try and make a statement. Make it know that should a plane have to be delayed due to their feeble protest from normal departure they will be put on no fly list for a year. Should a plane have to divert or return to gate after it has left jetway they will be on a no fly list for 3 years and pay a $25,000 fine. It is stupid to have people miss connecting flights for a grown up trying to make a statement on the plane, If they feel so strongly why not comply at the entrance to the airport and see how close they get to boarding.

As I stated above, Sweden does not require anesthesiologists to wear masks in surgery. Your assumptions about mask efficacy don’t reflect the evidence base. Keep assuming and you’ll quite often be wrong. But who cares about actual science? The Science is about virtue signaling and berating the opposing tribe.

I agree with the pilot. The crew is responsible for a number of people in a plane flying at things of feet above. Concentration on safety, no mistakes, and service to customers. The people who board planes to upset this environment in the name of voicing feelings against something they do not agree with. It doesn’t matter how you feel about how s situation is dealt with. What matters is a safe trip by rolling the rules, which you agreed with before you boarded the plane. As for linking yourself with historical figures shows how stupid you can be. Don’t want to wear a mask, don’t fly. That’s all there nis to it.

I so agree! Whether or no you agree with the rules, just follow them! I went on a SW flight (to a medical conference actually) where the guy next to me stated he didn’t intend to wear the mask and then he just didn’t. I asked the crew to speak to him but they didn’t. He went the entire flight maskless and I was absolutely unnerved (because I’m over 65 and work in a hospital where WE KNOW masks work regardless of what the general public believes). This is all just a horrible time in history when public health has been politicized and people are listening to loud voices full of sound and fury signifying nothing.
