Tragicomic: Southwest Airlines Passenger Uses Safety Card As Blanket

Sometimes airplanes get cold. Really cold. One Southwest Airlines passenger did not fly prepared with a blanket and proceeded to rather humorously attempt to use a safety card for warmth before quickly realizing that it would not work…

Safety Card As A Blanket On Southwest Airlines?

In a six-second TikTok video that has gained nearly two million views, a woman in a short skirt is lying down over three seats on a Southwest Airlines flight (how rare to get three seats to yourself…). She then takes the 737 safety card and uses it to cover her upper legs before giving up and putting the card back in the seatback pocket.

PLEASE DID SHE THINK THAT WOULD WORK AS A BLANKET

I don’t know that Southwest Airlines ever provided blankets (I’d guess no) but most carriers used to provide blankets in economy but those days are long gone, at least on almost domestic flights (United Airlines recently cut the blankets, but then brought them back after customer and flight attendant pushback).

Whether you are traveling to a warm destination or cold one, your aircraft may be cold. While you do not have to lug heavy coats with you when flying from Honolulu to Los Angeles during the summer, I do recommend you bring a little blanket along. I carry a fleece blanket with me when I travel that folds up into a neat zippered pocket and takes up very little room in my bag. On cold flights it comes in handy, particularly on overnight flights.

I feel sorry for this passenger…it is horrible to be cold when on a plane. Hopefully she will travel prepared next time and you will too…

I flew for Southwest for 31 years. We did have blankets up until the pandemic. I’m not sure if they ever brought them back after though, but trust me even if they had them I wouldn’t use them as they are not replaced between flights.

Pillow and Blankets were removed from Southwest Airlines after the Swine Flu, not the pandemic. Southwest used to have both.

Smart move … Was that version of “Swine” flu referring to a malady transmitted by the pax ? … How so appropriate !!

I would use an article of clothes, like a shirt, blouse, or trousers.

The obvious… wear more clothes and pack the short skirt.

I’d wear some adequate clothing to cover my extremities rather than to please/te ase/appease overly ‘testosteroned’ males !
