My overnight SAS A350-900 flight in business class from Los Angeles to Copenhagen was smooth and restful, with a remarkable consistency that I have come to expect on Scandinavian Airlines.
SAS A350-900 Business Class – First Impressions From LAX-CPH
I prefer flying nonstop from Los Angeles to Europe (versus a connection in the US Midwest or East Coast) because it provides an extra hour or two for sleep…and sleep is what I wanted to maximize on this flight.

SAS is so remarkably consistent. The seat, menu, and service flow have changed very little from when I flew SAS from LA to Stockholm nine years ago…

The seat is comfortable, bedding includes a soft pillow and duvet, though on this flight I only managed five hours of sleep….that’s because there was a strong tailwind which reduced our flight time to only 9.5 hours and the initial dinner service took more than two hours to complete from takeoff.

That point would be my complaint: service was courteous, but moved slowly. I appreciate not rushing passengers or plopping down a single-tray so full you can hardly eat from it, but I think the happy medium is completing meal service within 90 minutes.
The dinner itself was very good. The menu had beef, chicken, and pasta options but SAS offers meal pre-orders and I chose fish in advance, which was a very delicious “pan-seared pink snapper with artichokes barigoule, San Marzano tomato confit and smoked eggplant puree.” The scallop ceviche appetizer was also great.
Dessert was served on a cart with fruit, cheese, and sweet options.
With only 7 hours to go when I finally laid down, I was happy to sleep for five hours.
A very large breakfast was served prior to landing. I was not hungry at all, so this meal was more for the picture than the food itself (overnight oats, meat and cheese plate, eggs and bacon, croissant). I did enjoy a very good cappuccino onboard, one of the best I’ve had on a plane in recent memory.
CONCLUSION
Ultimately, this was a satisfactory flight. It wasn’t outstanding and it wasn’t bad…it was solid and I always enjoy flying SAS. With a great lounge at LAX (and in Copenhagen) and a good seat with fast free wi-fi, I look forward to many more SAS flights as I spend down my million miles.
Was this booked with your million?
How many miles for this redemption??
50K SAS miles + $23 in taxes.
But there’s not much availability…
It seems like it was.
FWIW, it seems like SAS this week has been quickly processing remaining outstanding claims for Million point promo runners who were and are awaiting the Million points because of outstanding claims for missing flight credit.
SAS has not yet credited the 10k points for those who did just 5 SkyTeam airlines, nor has it posted the 100k points for those who did 10-14 SkyTeam airlines under the Million points promo. When the 10k and 100k points post to the relevant promo runner accounts, SAS will have signaled that they have already pretty much finished giving the million points credit to just about all the promo runners who did at least 15 Skyteam airlines under the SAS promo rules.
“…a strong headwind”
Pretty sure that should be tailwind.
For sure. Thanks.
Hopefully they add in a bigger IFE selection with a few more recent movies, I found this to be a drawback of my flight with SAS a month ago (along with the nonfunctional wifi) but these are easy fixes.
SAS seems to be releasing more award availability in J than previously, is that what you are finding?
I hope so too. The selection can get real repetitive real fast.
I would echo that as well…the selection was poor.
Worst downgrade ever, going from Hästens to Dux.
Don’t get me wrong, Dux is fine but Hästens included a mattress topper.
Were the mattress toppers only by request? I don’t remember them.
They were always placed on the seat along with the pillow and duvet. I never had to ask for them
Hastens is a much higher end brand than Dux. Maybe Hastens didn’t see it getting a big return out of its SAS partnership or it faced a tougher financial headwind than it expected at the start of the SAS partnership.
That’s the saddest looking desert cart I’ve ever seen…lemon meringue pie, watermelon chunks, and sandwich slices of swiss and cheddar….at least they got the coffee right.
Looks like they sent middle school kids on a class assignment to Food For Less to put a dessert cart together with $20.
Thanks for reporting this….I’ve been considering SAS.
Matt last month I flew SAS from JFK to CPH and that was the most disgusting food I have ever had in my life. I would have rather swam from New York through the North Atlantic and into the North Sea down to Kobenhavn before I ate that food again. Whoever they subcontract to do their meals at JFK needs to be fired and executed.
I’m sorry to hear…I found the food out of Newark excellent:

What did you eat onboard that was so bad?
It seemed that the food was old, in addition to having literally no seasoning, not even a tad. The chicken, the rice & veggies had my stomach hurting within 30 minutes. A kid vomited right about the time I got sick. Awful. But on the SAS flight back to JFK, the food was superb! So I don’t blame SAS as much as I blame whoever hired that crap caterer.
Sounds horrible!
