A Spirit Airlines A320 aircraft came under gunfire while attempting to land in Port Au Prince, Haiti today. One flight attendant sustained minor injury, the aircraft was damaged inside–including the interior–and the flight was forced to divert to a neighboring country.
Spirit Airlines A320 Showered With Bullets While Attempting To Land In Port Au Prince, Haiti
Spirit Airlines 951 took off this morning from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) for Toussaint Louverture International Airport (PAP) in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti.
As it attempted to land in the Haitian capital, it was shot at by gunfire on the ground and forced to divert to Cibao International Airport (CIB), in Santiago, the second largest city in the Dominican Republic. One flight attendant sustained minor injuries, as noted by a Spirt Airlines spokesperson:
“An inspection revealed evidence of damage to the aircraft consistent with gunfire. One flight attendant on board reported minor injuries and is being evaluated by medical personnel.”
No pasengers were hurt. Photos, however, show that the passenger cabin was hit: bullet holes pierced through multiple overhead bins and evidence of bullet holes was also found on one of the rear lavatory doors.

Spirit Airlines, JetBlue, and American Airlines have all suspended service to Haiti, including to destinations outside the beleaguered capital, such as Cap-Haïtien.
I’m a pretty adventurous traveler, but there is one place I will not go right now and that is Haiti. Case in point: today’s attack. I’ll not comment on the politics surrounding this, but it comes just a day after Haiti’s interim prime minister Garry Conille was fired by the country’s transition presidential council. Haiti showed once again today it is a failed state.
Let’s hope that someone will help restore order in Haiti…but until then, it makes sense for commercial aircraft to stay away…
Wow. This could’ve really ended badly.
Let’s bring those shooters here.
sob…
After all, that’s who we are
Let’s bring those shooters here.

If you are going to use a different name, at least go to the effort of making a different comment…
They were just celebrating Trump’s victory by shooting into the air.
That’s a Florida tradition!
+1
It’s Spirit. Are you sure the gunfire didn’t originate from inside the cabin?
LOL.
Yeah, someone thought there was a raccoon in the ceiling.
They were probably aiming for the dogs and cats. Terran, you gotta kill then before you eat them!!
Should say afterall..
Why would a US airline still fly to a country where something like this happens? I am assuming passengers ar Haitians but pilot and FAs are probably Americans which should not be placed in dangerous situations.
Greed. It’s shameful they (along with AA) continue to fly into an active war zone, all to make a buck, while putting their crew and passengers lives at risk.
Did you ever think some of the passengers might be dual Haitian/American citizens?
We all need to worry about this. Haiti so unstable, so impoverished is ripe for a takeover from an enemy of the US. The last thing we need. :· (
Same old same-old for Haiti, I’m afraid.
Regrettably Haiti has become ungovernable, notwithstanding the billions in assistance provided since the 1986 removal of the last dictator. The elites are a feckless band with absolutely no desire to have the country be administered in any way like a modern state. I worked extensively in Haiti in the early and mid-1990s, and it was almost hopeless but not quite, since then it has only been one catastrophe for the Haitian people.
Odd contradiction!!
The Dominican Republic appears stable, yet Haiti is a lost cause. However, both share the same land mass.
What keeps the chaos of Haiti from spilling into the Dominican Republic??
So sad. A whole country of people who appeal to the lowest within them.
“Spirit Airlines A320 Showered With Bullets…”
“Showered” generally implies from above. Was it strafed by a vintage fighter plane?
