I wound up as the only passenger in first class on my Singapore Airlines 777 flight from Jakarta to Singapore, an extra special treat on the first leg of my journey home.
Alone In First Class On The Singapore Airlines 777
Singapore Airlines offers first class on its 777-300 (four seats) and A380-800 (six seats) jets. While Singapore Airlines has stopped selling first class on many flights within Asia, it still sells first class on its 546-mile route between Jakarta (CGK) and Singapore (SIN).

There were a couple of other passengers in the first class section of the lounge, so I thought the cabin would be 3/4 filled, but as I walked onboard, the purser Christine said, “Welcome back, Mr. Klint.” After I was seated and offered a pre-departure beverage, she told me I was the only passenger onboard and that we’d arrive on-time at Changi Airport for my rather tight connection to London.
The first class seats on the 777 are massive…35 inches wide and they convert to a bed that is 81 inches long. There are no overhead bins, but plenty of room for your carry-on on inside the suite (no doors, though). It was still dark out, so my pictures did not quite turn out the way I would have liked:

Singapore Airlines has both “Book the Cook” (an expanded menu of food items you can order prior to your flight) as well as the ability to pre-reserve meals. From Jakarta, however, there is no Book the Cook available…so I just ordered scrambled eggs with French Toast for breakfast. It was served after takeoff along with hot pastries, fruit, yogurt, and coffee:

I could have tried the Nasi Kuning Udang Serundeng or Chicken Congee as well, but I wasn’t even hungry for the eggs and knew I’d have a feast onboard my 14-hour flight from SIN-LHR.
By the time I finished breakfast, we were already starting our descent. I was offered more fresh-squeezed orange juice and coffee, but declined. I also declined the Champagne:
- 2007 Charles Heinsieck Blanc des Millenaires Champagne, France
- 2015 Louis Roederer Cristal Millesime Brut, Champagne, France
Not bad for a one-hour flight!
We landed early in Singapore where I found my London gate very close, but had time to walk to the Private Room ahead of my longhaul flight.

I’ll have more details and photos about this flight, including about the amenities, service, lavatories, Wi-Fi, and IFE in my full review.

I’m sharing about my whirlwind trip through Asia.

When SQ gets it right, they really are among the best.
When SQ gets it right they are the best!
The trouble is that while they never used to get it wrong, these days they do quite often.
I’m waiting for the next flight. It’s a holy grail for sure.
SQ is always truly World Class – in my opinion, no other airline product tops SQ. Several come close though,
How super lucky you are!
Let’s recall that the flag carrier of Singapore, is consistently ranked among the world’s best airlines… As for breakfast on this flight, it’s a real mini feast!
