Must See: Singapore Botanic Gardens

No trip to Singapore is complete without a visit to the Singapore Botanic Gardens, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The garden first opened in 1859 and has been a staple of Singapore ever since. The 82-hectacre garden is open daily from 5:00 AM to 12:00 AM.

It is a beautiful place to spend part of your day and showcases the rich diversity of vegetation in Singapore’s tropical climate. As someone who is sensitive to the sun, my tip to you is to bring a sun umbrella along. It’s not a great look on me, but it certainly kept me from frying in the scorching summer heat.

The gardens are reachable by taxi and Grab or via public transport (bus).

Orchids: Garden Within A Garden

Located within the Botanic Gardens, the National Orchid Garden contains over 1,200 species and 2,000 hybrids of orchids. This was the highlight of our time in Singapore for my uncle, who loves gardening and orchids in particular.

While admission into the Botanic Gardens is complimentary, the National Orchid Garden costs S$5 to enter and is open from 8:30 AM to 7:00 PM each day.

Gardening is not really my forte, yet I still enjoyed the walk through the garden. Next time, we’ll check out the Gardens by the Bay.

For easier and cheaper access, there is an MRT station right outside the garden entrance.
