While I understand that is not comfortable to see others filming you against your will, when you act up on an airplane you should expect it and you cannot just yank the phone out of the hand of a fellow passenger to stop her from recording.
Man Kicked Off Southwest Airlines Flight Grabs Phone Of Female Seatmate As He Walks Off Aircraft
Like the whining dog incident I write about earlier, this event also happened on a Southwest Airlines flight. We have no idea why the guy was thrown off, but on his “walk of shame” down the aisle he grabbed the mobile phone of a woman sitting in the aisle toward the front of the Boeing 737 aircraft.

View From The Wing reports that the man not only grabbed the phone of the woman, but proceeded to make a phone call while he was being kicked off the aircraft. He makes that claim based upon the Twitter post above, but I don’t think that is what happened at all.
Looking at the video, it appears to me like he grabbed the woman’s phone out of annoyance that she was recording him, then tried to delete the video (which involves not only moving hte video to trash, but deleting the trash).
That was a wasted effort because so many others appear to be taking video and his act prompted many more to whip out their mobile phones to record what was going on.
You make the situation worse by digging in when you should just walk off. It may be that he was thrown off for a bad reason, but once you are thrown off there is no going back…arguing your way back is futile and is more likely to get you placed on a carrier’s internal no-fly list rather than simply rebooked on the next flight.
CONCLUSION
Let me give you a little legal advice: don’t touch the property of other people unless invited to do so. While it is not clear what led to a man being kicked off a Southwest Airlines flights, even understandable anger over others recording him did not justify grabbing the phone from a woman and attempting to keep it from her (and for the record, she should not have jumped all over him either…she would have got her phone back).
I’m fully supportive of anyone who wants to grab the phone of someone who is filming or photographing them without permission.
I completely agree. He should have dropped the beochs phone and stopped on it…
What has happened to “mind your own business”? I would never film anyone, it is not my business. People have to stop trying to get into someone else’s lives. They are as morons as the passenger acting up.
Southwest…..rapidly become the new Spirit….without the Big Front Seat.
LOL
The guy had every right to grab the phone. She has no right to film other passengers.
Actually, legally she has every right, unless instructed by crew not to do so. There is no expectation of privacy in public spaces. That being said, I fully support teaching a lesson to all these amateur movie producer wannabes who are always trying to get their videos to go viral. This is how toddlers behave. Get into people’s faces like that, and don’t act surprised if you get slapped. Actually since he grabbed her phone and he was already in trouble, might as well smash it or throw it off the jet bridge and let her fly without it. That’ll teach her to mind her own goddamn business.
There are simply no expectations of privacy when you are in the plane. Lady has every right to record videos of what’s transpiring around her.
If you don’t want attention worthy of getting filmed, then don’t play stupid games.

WOW! I’m assuming Matt is working on a story about this.
Crazy and scary.
What has become of air travel in the United States ? Incidents like this are becoming the norm on a daily basis! I can’t keep up with them all!
He’s hot!
So tall & handsome. I’d totally do him.
Probably didn’t think this one through, but in many states, theft over $1,000 is a felony. Hopefully it was cheaper Android
No one is getting a felony theft conviction over this.
Lots of people have done this: snatched away someone’s phone who was recording them and then returned it seconds later, none to my knowledge have been convicted of a felony for this.
Plus I assume it’s federal law what applies here, not state law.
If he would “keep calm and carry on” as if nothing happened when deplaning, it would get less attention or maybe even play out better for him. Like the time where a seated person on my flight was suddenly asked by a gate agent to get up and off the plane because the airline suddenly discovered what they thought was a ticket use irregularity. Passenger got off the plane calmly and politely but refused to dig in the bins or point out where any associated cabin baggage was when asked if there was any cabin baggage. Minutes later the passenger was back on board because they didn’t want to empty the plane to find whatever cabin baggage the passenger had. The passenger seemed cool-headed and unflustered, so it probably played to the passenger’s advantage to not add to making the scene into a bigger scene by keeping quiet, polite and acting calmly. Just like when the police tell a person to “keep calm” or “calm down”, don’t protest that you’re not calm and get provoked into agitation by such talk. Few things annoy a wannabe provocative power-tripper more than when their target doesn’t take the bait to escalate and knows their game.
