Zurich Airport is one of my favorite in the world. And it is getting even better if you fly SWISS.
I see ZRH a lot when visiting my in-laws and appreciate that there never seems to be too much traffic or congestion (like night and day compared to my home airport of LAX). I also appreciate how much SWISS has invested in its lounges, whether that be in its business or Senator lounges or its two beautiful first class lounges. Even the terminal restaurants are a nice place to wait for your flight.

But it gets even better. Yesterday, SWISS unveiled a redesigned concourse in Zurich Airport’s Check-in 1. The new style resembles the lounges, with light oakwood and “atmospheric” lamps that offer pleasant light. New group check-in areas make it easier for groups to travel together and the first class check-in area has been totally re-designed.
What I like most, though, are new waiting zones on the northern and southern ends of the concourse. Customers traveling win any class of service and relax or even rest in comfortable armchairs made by Vitra and DeSede, a high-end SWISS furniture company.
I mentioned the new first class check-in facility above. When I last traveled in SWISS First, I checked in for my flight in the same area that business class and Star Gold passengers do. Now, first class passengers have a private entrance and a more luxurious facility with a dedicated security checkpoint that empties directly into the new first class lounge.

CONCLUSION
It is always a pleasure to fly out of Zurich and the new check-in experience will make the experience even better.

I recently checked in at ZRH for an economy flight. While the setup was standard the experience was sublime. There was no line and the agent was courteous and friendly, we were made to feel important. Other legs of this trip involved United Polaris and the SWISS economy check in was better.
To say that flying out of ZRH on a long haul flight is a pleasure is stretching the truth, Security was extra tense and clearly discourteous. The down, train, up again and then down to a lower lever for a departure to the USA/EWR was not super comfortable.
The flight in economy was pleasant and the ice cream superb. It should be noted that I enjoyed the plastic container on SWISS more than the glass service on United Polaris more, and this was before the United cabin attendant dropped the glass containers and blamed me.
Beautiful! And knowing the people and culture of Switzerland and Germany, it will remain a quiet, clean, and peaceful area to relax. If this was in the US, it would get trashed and overrun with the homeless!
No worries if you can’t answer, but I’d love to hear how the Swiss first class Aeroplan incident resolved given how much it was publicized on your blog.
(I’m a different person from the one above who told someone just to buy first class.)
There always used to be a First Class / HON Check-In Lounge with a private entrance. It has just been totally redesigned. I always wondered why you never wrote about the old First Class Check-In Lounge…
Do you know if Lufthansa First passengers are able to use this as well?
