Kyle wrote a great piece yesterday on why he is sticking to T-Mobile despite its flaws. I share in his assment, even as I spend this week in two countries that are excluded from T-Mobile’s international “Simple Choice” plan. Which countries are covered under T-Mobile’s international plan?
Here’s a list of countries, grouped by region, that are covered under T-Mobile’s generous international plan. As a reminder, this includes unlimited text messaging and data capped at 2G/Edge speeds. It also includes calling at 20 cents per minute. Tethering is not permitted.

CONCLUSION
With wi-fi calling available around the world and reliable + reasonably-priced cellular service in more than 140 nations/territories, T-Mobile offers a compelling value proposition.
I used t mobile plan for Brunei . Received a text from t mobile that it would cost . However I was not charged for texting
I switched to T-Mobile last year. Great when traveling out of the country. However, foreign places like Texas apparently aren’t covered. Trying to decide when to go back to AT&T, whether to wait for iPhone 8 or not. Either way, I’m going to lose a bundle of money.
I’ve had great coverage in Texas. I frequently will get 30 – 70 Mbps down.
Don’t know where you’re at exactly, but service for me has been pretty good in the DFW area, I’d say on par with ATT and VZ. It gets hit or miss if you travel out in the country, especially off major highways.
I live in Abilene. Not a metropolis, but well over 100,000. Three universities, large military base. One local university was a leader in iPhone implementation.
No cell coverage on the southside of town. No coverage at one of the two main hospitals in town.
Many dead spots in rural areas, even along interstate highways.
My children lose coverage while on the campus of Abilene Christian University; AT&T never has less than full bars.
Can’t wait to switch back.
I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile today because I heard such great things about it. Once I entered my town in Ohio I got NO SERVICE at all. I couldn’t believe it. Not even one bar… so no texting, calls, internet, nothing. I think I made a big mistake.
Maybe so. T-Mobile is getting better, but still bad in more rural areas of the Midwest.
Does TMobile internet simcard work in Sierra Leone
Be mindful of T-Mobile local partners in each countries you visited. The service varied in accordance to the local provider signal strength.
In some countries (like japan) or areas (like europe) it maybe cheaper to rent a wifi dongle which you can pick up and return at the airport or have it delivered to your hotel.
Only 2G/Edge data speeds? That makes travel apps like Google Maps, uploading photos and Facebook slow and almost unusable. And 20c/minute for calls? It’s still better to get a local SIM Card. We recently used a UK & Europe SIM Card from http://www.myuksimcard.com — proper 4G LTE data speeds, minutes and texts. Also consider a short term wi-fi plan from http://www.boingo.com as you still have to pay for lots of wi-fi in England and Europe.
I’ve used TMO’s international service in several countries. It’s always been fast enough for Google Maps, IG, Facebook, basic web surfing, etc. They claim you are capped at 2G, but in my experience it’s always been faster than that. No, I wouldn’t suggest relying on it to stream video, but it’s good enough for the basic functions that most tourists are going to need.
I have T-Mobile and it works at faster than 2G in Canada. Also when I was in Poland, it was fast enough to FaceTime back to Canada. Perhaps, it defaults to the lower speed that is available — which isn’t always 2G.
Canada and Mexico, you get 4G LTE like you are in the US. All calls and texts are free as well.
Seriously?
I haven’t seen south America on your list, what happened?
Thanks Joshua — not sure how that got deleted but it is now back.
in australia it can’t possibly be 2G cause our 2G network got switched off about a year ago
Speeds are still capped.
Still no coverage in French Polynesia; had to buy SIM cards for our visit last year.
Which Network Sim cards did you buy for FP and can you buy from airport or online beforehand ?
FP?
French Polynesia
I know this is 2 years later, but in case someone else is wondering… I got a Vini card. FP also uses Vodafone. The airport (PPT) is very small – I don’t think either provider is there but they both have stores in Papeete.
Works in Armenia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan. Just visited and got the T-mobile country welcome every time. Cost was $0.25 min I think.
Pretty sure Vietnam is covered too. On the map it is but not on the list.
How do I connect to T-Mobile in Ghana I need urgent help on how to get the network please.
Dial 611
Don’t call 611 you’ll get charged international fees. Call the toll free international t mobile number: +1 (505) 998-3793
Does anyone know about T-Mobile coverage in Mozambique?
Which countries are covered under Statewide International Plan
I was in Mozambique in 2011 with tmobile. I assume the coverage is better now than it was then.
From USA while traveling, What is the best plan to use your iPhone in Iceland?
I understand .20c p/ min. But is there a better way to connect?
Thank you!
Verizon has the best coverage, but T-Mobile will be cheapest.
Is a sim card a good idea?
Is good idea for what? If you want to connect to a cellular network, a SIM card is an excellent idea since it’s a necessity
VZW is incredibly expensive and, whatever they say, the roaming data is definitely limited
Does T mobile function in Seychelles? Any advice on international calls or texts out of there (US citizen/owner)?
pretty sure this list is not accurate. I went to Colombia and had no Tmobile service whatsoever
Does anyone know if i have full data in philippines. I am going to philippines in October
Does AT&T or T-Mobile work in st kitts
Yes.
I’m looking for options between TMO and a local provider in Barbados. Best is call/Data/Service between the two. Recommendations?
Hi. Unfortunately T-mobile not works in Brazil. I have on sim card from T mobile Poland, but any operator offer roaming. when you try you recieve message ( forbiden TIM, forbinden CLARO, forbiden VIVO)
I will be traveling to Peru for about2 months, maybe more. I will be all over the country in that time an dI’m wondering what the best service is to get so that I can have the most access to keeping in touch with my family while I’m away. How is service with T-Mobile in Peru??
