Senator Ted Cruz (R – TX), also known as “Cancun Cruz” for his trip to Cancun in the midst of a fierce storm, tweeted his excitement over an airline’s new service from Houston to…Cancun.
Ted Cruz Thinks New Houston – Cancun Sun Country Flights Are “Awesome”
In a tweet that may have been more tongue-in-cheek than serious, Senator Cruz responded to a news report from ABC13 Houston which asked, “Excited to travel again? This airline can hook you up with a cheap flight to sunny Cancun…”
His answer? Awesome.

Cruz was involved in a firestorm in the midst of a freezing rainstorm in February after he and his family escaped the cold by flying to Cancun while millions of his constituents went without power. After outrage grew, Cruz flew back the next day, first implying he had just flown down to “escort” his wife and children, but later confirming his trip had been ill-advised.
“It was obviously a mistake. In hindsight, I wouldn’t have done it. And all of us have made decisions — when you got two girls who have been cold for two days and haven’t had heat or power and they’re saying, ‘Hey, look. We don’t have school. Why don’t we go? Let’s get out of here.'”
His latest tweet comes as Minneapolis-based Sun Country Airlines, a budget carrier, announced new service between Houston and Cancun. Sun County will fly from George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) to Cancún International Airport (CUN) and has recently stepped up its service in the Lone Star State with new service from Dallas and San Antonio as well.
CONCLUSION
Cruz turns downs upgrades on United Airlines, so the all-economy-class Boeing 737s utilized by Sun Country may be perfect for him. Then again, I have a feeling Cruz won’t be actually flying to Cancun for quite some time…

Senator Cruz. Go ahead, and don’t come back.
Cancun Cruz learned a thing or two from Salzburg Stuart.
What is the point of this post? Is “Awesome” an unusual response?
Seems like you’re just trying to work in a political jab.
Nope, just a story that interested me.
