How Televangelists Defend Private Jets In 2019

Matthew Klint Posted onMay 21, 2019November 14, 2023 13 Comments

Televangelist Jesse Duplantis is in the market for a new private jet, but has no desire to discuss it outside the friendly confines of his echo chamber church.

Inside Edition, a tabloid American TV program, recently caught up with both Duplantis and his colleague Kenneth Copeland. Neither were very receptive to reporter Lisa Guerrero. While Duplantis did not stop his security detail from dragging her away, Copeland at least entertained a few of her questions. Watch the video below:

Duplantis still wants his Dassulat Falcon 7X ($54 million). He asked for it last year from his viewers, then backtracked a bit after controversy erupted, but has started hinting at it again. He claims that his new jet will allow him to “spread the gospel” anywhere in the world with only one stop.

Copeland was asked to clarify what he meant when he justified his refusal to fly commercial on the grounds that “you can’t get in a long tube with a bunch of demons…it’s deadly!”

a man pointing at something

Wagging his finger at Guerrero, Copeland said he did believe that people were demons.

No, I do not and don’t you ever say I did!

He also defended why he must fly private:

If I flew commercial, I’d have to stop 65% of what I’m doing.

Like flying to Steamboat Springs, Colorado vacation home 143 times in his private jet since 2000?

CONCLUSION

I bring this up not because I want the law to prohibit these charlatans from operating, but out of disgust for their perversion of the Christian faith. Yes, it’s America…and yes, people are free to flush their money down the toilet if they so choose. But men who misappropriate the faith they purport to proclaim deserve our swift condemnation…on a regular basis.

Spot on. A complete embarrassment to the Gospel.

How many Americans are dumb enough to believe this crap : “ God told me to get that plane” ?
Must be quite a few, judging by the apparent success of these loathsome shysters.
Not that Australians are pointing the finger, given that our staggeringly stupid electorate just re-elected the worst government ( in the manner of a Trump) in the country’s history.

There isn’t much of a correlation between voting in a national election and forking over somewhat large amounts of money to charlatan TV evangelists.

Only in the sense that some people are easily fooled by con men, liars and shysters. The more brazen the lies, the more they seem to get away with.

I agree. Nothing Christ-Like in private jets, and my biggest ‘brokenness’ is me flying around the world in First Class – I always want to be upfront about my own hypocrisies – & staying in Sheldon Adelstein’s MBS, also bad on my part.

Also I wish the media would stop referring to fundamentalist ‘self-professed’ christians as ‘Evangelicals’. There is nothing ‘good’ about the ‘news’ they are spreading

    Love your neighbor!

    Couldn’t these gentlemen buy a second-hand converted 767-200 freighter like Drake 🙂 ?

Kyle Stewart could advise them 🙂 – the cost would be much lower than that of a brand new executive jet!!

As a person that works in a non-profit Christian international humanitarian aid organization people like this sadden me immensely. Clearly they have never seen a hungry child’s eyes or the anguish that a parent experiences when they can’t even supply the basic needs of food & medicines! Lord have mercy on this man

I wonder why non Christians are worried about how people of faith spend their money. Private jets or bicycles, its all good

Stan, I only wrote about this because I am a Christian.

Nothing wrong in pointing out hypocrisy. These preachers aren’t Christian. They go against the teachings in the Bible. No. I’m not a Christian but I did take Scripture classes as an elective in school for 5 years.

Has anyone ever noticed just how much Kenneth Copeland resembles Jim Jones? I mean it, really! Not even trying to make a comparison between their “ministries,” but he does!
