The Winning United Airlines’ Retro Livery Is…

Matthew Klint Posted onDecember 13, 2010November 14, 2023 2 Comments

Last month, I blogged about United asking their flight attendants to choose a vintage livery to commemorate UA’s upcoming 85th anniversary. Among the choices were varying designs used by United from the 1930s through the 1980s.

The votes have been tallied and the winner is the 1970’s “Friend Ship” design (probably the design in use when many of UA’s current FAs began their careers with United).

While not my first choice, it is a slick design and I look forward to seeing it soon on a UA 757.

I am still wondering, though, why UA doesn’t use all five designs, like US Airways does. Each one has historical significance and would be fitting reminder of UA’s heritage as we segue into the new Continental livery.

The thing with US is that it is one livery from each of the 4 major airlines that were acquired by US/America West.
