UA849 (PHL-LAX) Diverts to Nashville

Matthew Klint Posted onOctober 30, 2010November 14, 2023 5 Comments

As Maxwell Smart would say, “Missed it by that much…”

Something happened aboard United 849 tonight, the evening non-stop flight from Philadelphia to Los Angeles.

I was booked on that flight and missed it due to a mix-up at Dulles this afternoon.

I wonder what happened?

Maybe another unruly passenger?

I’m banging my head against the wall for missing the flight. It’s not even the compensation that I’m thinking about–I just enjoy adventures like random mechanical diversions to cities UA mainline doesn’t serve.

I gave both Nashville Airport and United a call to try to find out what exactly happened. BNA had no information and UA just said it was a mechanical problem. Hopefully no cargo from Yemen…

Sorry you missed the comp opportunity. I, too, sort of enjoy watching everyone’s reactions, general conversations, etc, during those sort of things..

Indeed, the diversion was caused by a mechanical problem:

FlightAware is saying that the flight is now operated by an A320. Perhaps UA got a replacement aircraft in?

You would’ve loved to meet the United Express ground staff at BNA(all DGS employees). I used to work next to them at BNA and they’re quite a special bunch. Sometimes they try, but they’re so poorly trained and so understaffed they wouldn’t know what to say or do to these poor passengers.
