United Airlines Adds Flights To London

England will fully re-open to vaccinated travelers from the United States and European Union on August 2, 2021. With demanded expected to increase for travel across the pond, United Airlines is adding more flights between London and the USA.

United Airlines Adds London Flights

In August, United Airlines will offer six daily flights between London Heathrow (LHR) and the USA, including:

  • Chicago (ORD)
  • Houston (ORD)
  • Newark (EWR)
  • San Francisco (SFO)
  • Washington (IAD) – 2x daily

Prior to this announcement, Washington service was just once daily and Houston service was 5x per week instead of daily. These six flights will continue in September.

Customers traveling to England must be fully vaccinated in the U.S. with vaccines that have been approved by the FDA (Pfizer, Moderna, or J&J) and must take a test before departure as well as a PCR test within the first two days of arrival. Passengers vaccinated in the U.S. will also need to complete a passenger locator form prior to traveling to England and provide proof of U.S. residency.

United also still plans to move forward with its new service from Boston (BOS) to London, though the specific start date has not been indicated. United will study loads further before bringing back its Los Angeles (LAX) and Denver (DEN) service as well.

Patrick Quayle, United’s Vice President of International Network and Alliances, said:

“Today’s announcement is yet another major milestone in recovering from the COVID-19 pandemic with the opening of one of the most important markets from the U.S. United has demonstrated that we can operate flights between the U.S. and England safely and we are eager to help rebuild these economies by facilitating business and leisure travel.”

CONCLUSION

United is responding to the re-opening of England by adding a second daily flight from Washington Dulles and making Houston service daily. Service from Boston, Denver, and Los Angeles will not resume at this time, though United explicitly stated that Boston service will resume in the “coming months.”

Do we know if rapid antigen will be acceptable for the flight to LHR?

Also, for a trip of 5 or less days, you’re essentially pre-registering for your test you need to come back to the USA.

      Antigen will be accepted.

Two tests, even if you’re vaccinated.
Are they trying to give people a reason to not travel?

Had a business trip planned to UK in October, but, yeah, I’ll pass.
Not going to get vaccinated if there is no benefit.

95% or more of the Covid patients in your local hospital are people who weren’t vaccinated. The fact that you think the vaccines benefits are primarily for travel, and not to protect yourself and others, could use some reflection.

I guess the pre-pandemic Denver flight isn’t coming back, yet? Any news on when it might?

Agree with George. Why jump through hoops and get tested twice if you did the responsible thing and got the vaccine??

God forbid if you get a false positive, then what?? You have to pay 1800 quid for a hotel room/ prison???

“and provide proof of U.S. residency”

So does this mean tourists returning to other parts of Europe/Africa/The Middle East who are vacationing in the US can’t vacation in the UK as well on the way back? Or would a valid US visa count?

United is adding ORD a 2nd daily ORD to LHR, United has not stopped flying to LHR during the pandemic from ORD.

958 will probably depart around 4-4:30 pm
And 931 (currently flying) will continue to leave around 6-6:30 pm

It is ridiculous that IAH got London back before Denver.

The DEN and LAX flights need to come back ASAP, it is ridiculous they aren’t starting on Aug 1.

IAH has way more paid business class fliers than DEN (oil biz). LAX has too much competition.

The way they treat DEN and LAX is a disgrace. Denver has carried United through the pandemic, outperformed essentially every airport in the country. And LAX has far outperformed SFO during the pandemic. Yet they refuse to restart long haul international from either of these airports.

      Bill,

Airports are not people. And just because Denver traffic did well throughout Covid doesn’t mean DEN (or LAX) are “owed” a flight to London. United has plenty of wide-bodies on hand. I’m sure they’ll fly any route they are confident will be profitable. If that’s not DEN, then there won’t be flight, no matter how meritorious the airport has been.

I’ve been traveling around Europe and North American throughout the pandemic. I have little fear of the virus. I was even exposed to the UK variant on a BA flight. Tested negative. Maybe my body can fight off the virus since I am healthy and not obese. Or maybe aircraft HEPA filtration works. U mad I didn’t die, bro?

I’m thinking that you may be right. The virus takes one look at your dad tie and Members Only jacket and runs for its life.

No wonder you can’t get OPM to pay for any of your travel when you talk about traveling around “North American”, must not go well in interviews. That of course and the casual racism, talk of the Great Reset, downplaying the insurrection, etc.

        Keep running from Delta, anti-vaxxer!

I make the occasional typo, but I back up my assertions with evidence. You are all ad hominem, all the time, box humper. I am not the one who brought up the Great Reset, you authoritarian collectivist. Getting the facts straight was never your strong suit, of course. Somehow you think being an OPM drone makes you a tough guy. Of course, collectivists are all about spending other people’s money. If your time were actually that valuable, you’d be flying private. How sad is it that you are “fired up” for a work trip to London? OMG! SMH.

That’s November. 2019 schedules still loaded. Not sure if it will stick. UA is only thinking ahead to September right now.
