Ok, I just could not resist that title. Forgive me for this whole post.
As airlines across the nation seek to virtue signal their support for LGBTQ+ rights during Pride Month, United Airlines is teaming up with OTG, the food operator in Newark Airport, to offer its first-annual drag brunch.
This charity event will take place on Thursday, June 20th at Novella, an Italian restaurant in Terminal C. The event will be hosted by Harmonica Sunbeam and deejayed by Steve Sidewalk (should I know them?). All proceeds will go toward the Trevor Project, which offers counseling and suicide-prevention services to youth. OTG has promised it will donate at least $10,000 to the non-profit group.
The auction is already closed, but United offered MileagePlus members the ability to bid for the event, which includes:
- Two tickets including:
- All-you-can-eat breakfast and fresh-baked pastries from Mélange Bakery
- Open bar including mixed cocktails and mocktails
- Performances by Jahlissa A. Ross, Pattaya Hart, Fifi Dubois, Caracol Richards, Daesha Richards, and Kennedy Davenport from RuPaul’s Drag Race
Now I have to admit, Ben (Lucky) once sat me down and made me watch Ru Paul’s Drag Race. It was a Snatch Game episode, which brought back memories of watching Match Game reruns on Game Show Network as a kid. It was hilarious, though I’m sure some of the humor went straight over my head…but it wasn’t my first time watching drag. Who can forget Flip Wilson as Geraldine? Or even the Three Stooges dressing up as women?
Anyway, that’s not my burning question.
My burning question is whether Dr. David Dao will be invited?
The doctor was dragged off a United flight in 2017 and settled for big bucks with United. He’s back in the spotlight now that his non-disclosure agreement has expired.

Can you imagine United offering him a VIP table at this event? I’m thinking it would make for a hilarious and perhaps even helpful PR stunt…
CONCLUSION
Will Dr. Dao be given a front-r0w seat to this event, will he have to be dragged in, or should he just sashay away?
Okay…
Awe I wish I could go to this! Also cute that Ben showed you Drag Race. It’s gone mainstream!
This is extremely tone deaf of you. Very disappointing.
Is your article about straight pride upcoming?
Lighten up. No offense intended.
I’m sure it wasn’t intended, but you need to understand that this *is* offensive. Pride month is not a joke. Especially the 50th anniversary. The Trevor Project does a lot of really good work and you using their fundraiser as a way to make a cheap joke is offensive no matter how many episodes of Drag Race you watched. Consider this a learning experience.
I’m truly not trying to be offensive. Isn’t the point of this very exercise aimed at raising money through humor? I bet at least one of the guests will be making a “drag” joke at Dr. Dao’s expense…it won’t be a glum event.
The Trevor Project and any charity that helps to protect vulnerable youth from suicide does indeed do good work and I’m the only blogger (as far as I saw) to even highlight the charity event.
Your words are appreciated, though. Seriously. Thanks for taking the time to comment and offer constructive criticism. The last thing I want to do is crassly offend my readers.
Matthew, you are 100% wrong. Just admit it, lick your wounds and go on. Really, I can’t believe you posted this thinking it would be innocuous…
Just to be clear, you think a fund raiser for LBGT youth suicide prevention is a joke? That’s what you’re saying? Oh but it’s ok because you have a gay friend? That’s what you’re saying?
Kindly find the nearest exit. It may be located behind you.
Nope. Didn’t say that at all.
Virtue signaling. Yep, got it in one.
What a load of crap from all these easily offended snowflakes. I am not only gay, but have been a vocal and persecuted advocate for gay rights long before it was cool. Think San Francisco before Harvey Milk. I laughed at this post. The humor was clear and no harm was intended. These bottoms are so irritable it is pathetic. Don’t worry about it Matthew.
I’m not a “snowflake” but I am highly offended that United does this. Not everyone on this earth feels the need to embrace the LGBT…XYZ lifestyle (and it doesn’t mean bashing or hurting anyone of this “persuasion”). I can easily say most gay people are heterophobic – in other words, they hate straight people. Do what you want, it’s a personal choice, only don’t shove it in (straight) people’s faces and then call them out for being “homophobic”. We get it, United, you want to be all embracing, all accepting, tolerant and whatever other dozen buzzwords to be politically correct. Run an airline, not a talent show for RuPaul’s Drag Race !!
A bunch of emotional hemophiliacs Aztec, Gtfo, and Josh are!
Emotional hemophiliacs? Meaning when I get upset my blood won’t clot? If you’re going to insult us, at least try to make sense. Or maybe you don’t know what hemophilia means?
It might be virtue signalling, but it’s a signal I appreciate all the same. I try to find out prior to traveling with my fiance if the company has done things like this, or has written anti discrimination polices that include sexual orientation. Raises the likelihood that if we are hassled by the employees, corporate will do something about it.
