United Airlines Adds Flight As Germany Reopens to American Tourists
Yesterday, Germany announced that it was re-opening to tourists from the United States starting on June 20, 2021. U.S. citizens who are vaccinated or can present a negative COVID-19 test will be permitted entry. The news comes as the European Union recently moved the USA to its “white list” of countries approved for travel into the 27-member bloc based upon declining COVID-19 numbers.
With news that summer travel to Germany will be possible, United Airlines has announced it will bolster service to Germany starting next month.
In July, United will add:
- a second daily flight from Washington D.C. (IAD) to Frankfurt (FRA)
- Increasing service from San Francisco (SFO) to Munich (MUC) to daily
- Resuming three-times weekly flights from Newark (EWR) to Munich (MUC)
A United spokesperson told Live and Let’s Fly that in the Atlantic region, United has set a record of new bookings since the start of pandemic (April 2020) each the last three consecutive weeks.
In total, United will offer 73 weekly flights to Germany in July, compared to 59 weekly flights this month. In July, United will offering the following flights to Frankfurt and Munich:
- Frankfurt (FRA)
- Chicago (ORD)
- Denver (DEN)
- Houston (IAH)
- Newark (EWR)
- San Francisco (SFO)
- Washington (IAD)
- Munich (MUC)
- Chicago (ORD)
- Newark (EWR)
- San Francisco (SFO)
- Washington (IAD)
There is no word yet if/when service to Berlin (BER) will resume.
CONCLUSION
It is exciting that Germany is finally re-opening and on such a rapid basis. With the European Union now recommending all member states re-open to U.S. citizens, it appears a summer in Europe is no longer out of reach.
Will you be onboard any of the United Airlines Germany flights this summer?
You left out Fra-EWR
Interesting under What Rules Apply for Fully Vaccinated People they want
5 The name and address of the person or institution responsible for vaccinating the person
6 Confirmation in written or electronic form with the qualified electronic signature or qualified electronic seal of the person who carried out the vaccination; if for administrative reasons this is not possible, a suitable format such as a stamp or state symbols should be used to clearly identify the responsible person or institution
There’s no space on the little CDC card for this information. Who issued the shot, yes. Their address, not so much. And #6, yeah how’s that happen.
I think you missed out on the Frankfurt – Newark flight, which also operate in July
Am I the only one holding out hope that UA was going to take this moment to reclaim lost market share at LAX? Aside from domestic expansion would love to see LAX – FRA or ZRH!
Why is LAX the only hub without service to FRA?
LAX is not a UA hub. LH has a direct flight to FRA.
LAX is a UA hub.
https://simpleflying.com/united-lax-long-haul-base/
It’s a hub in name only at this point. Connections to non-UA partners are a huge hassle and only possible airside if you happen to know the semi-secret tunnel network between TBIT and T7.
Even before COVID, long haul out of LAX to many important destinations – like say all of Germany for example, or Singapore – were left to *A partners. Compare that to SFO, which is an hour flight away, for instance.
Or look at the amount of domestic connections going through IAH or DEN, whereas LAX tends to be a starting or an end point.
So yeah, technically it may be a hub, but UA treats it like a focus city.
Will they accept CDC card as proof of vaccination?
Interesting today I reticketed next month’s RTW to next May with FRA-IAD seat 1A. Follow s two CX in seat 1A 🙂
