United Airlines CEO Scott Kirby is a thankful man. In his 2022 Thanksgiving Day message to employees, shared with Live and Let’s Fly, Kirby reflected upon three things for which he is most grateful for.
United Airlines CEO Kirby Most Thankful For There Three Things On Thanksgiving Day 2022
First, Kirby is about to be a grandfather and is thankful for his wife and seven children.
“I have an amazing wife, seven children and my oldest daughter is having my first grandchild this December. (I’ll admit, it’s hard for me to think of myself as a grandfather!) I’m incredibly fortunate to have a loving, wonderful, supportive family and to spend time with them.”
Kirby also has a toddler in the house, so there are a number of years that separate his oldest and youngest children…that will keep you on your toes!
Second, Kirby is thankful for his United Airlines family:
“I’m thankful for my United family — not just because you’re building the biggest and best airline in the history of aviation — because it’s so much more than that. Our business transcends most businesses and is critical to connecting people around the globe. Every day, you’re changing the way people feel, and when we do that, we can be a force of change and make a real difference in this world.”
Third, Kirby is thankful for the United States of America:
“I am thankful to be an American and proud to be an American. And I know that could be a divisive statement in some circles today. And I also recognize that this is a uniquely American holiday…But for us and for me, one of the things that makes us great is that we constantly strive to get better. And because we have freedom, people are allowed to say the things that they disagree with and they don’t like about their society or about their government. And because of that, we constantly get better, and sometimes that’s messy and sometimes that’s ugly. But we always come through. And I am confident that will always be the case. And so I am thankful to live in a society where people can disagree with each other, where we do always try to get better, and where we can be a shining light to the world.”
I find it interesting that concerning his third point he acknowledges that being proud to be an American may be seen as divisive. I happen to agree with Kirby that America can be a shining light to the world, even though it so often falls short.
Kirby also shared a more limited reflection, with photos, on Instagram:

CONCLUSION
In a much more personal message than his usual update on operations or orders, United CEO Scott Kirby has reflected upon three things he is thankful for. Those include his family, United family, and the USA. I suspect he’s also quite thankful that this is shaping up to be a very smooth day of travel with virtually zero delays or cancellations thus far.
“not just because you’re building the biggest and best airline in the history of aviation”
Who knew he was such a comedian…
“that America can be a shining light to the world”
That ship sailed decades ago.
I would submit that the recent Midterm elections showed us that Americans are not ready to give up democracy just yet. As the oldest enduring democracy in the world, that is an accomplishment in the era of narcissism.
Age is one thing, but given how many other countries around the world have democratic elections without a fear that their democracy may be dying, and well…America isn’t that special anymore.
He forgot to give thanks to the American taxpayer for all the free money.
Lol. For sure.
By having 7 children he’s been selfish, helping to destroy the planet by over population.
Spot on. No one should be having that many kids, especially nowadays. Sheesh.
Are you gonna criticize the Muslims too? They have more kids than anyone else by far. No, I didn’t think so because it’s not politically correct.
overpopulation isn’t a thing.
Its a liberal talking point.
Funny thing is lefties are the ones not having kids.
Matthew: did you catch were Mr. Kirby’s family photo was taken? Hint: there could be more than one correct answer.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Disney for sure, but Kirby appears to be photo shopped in the scene.
On the Disneyland Railroad for sure!
I love United!
