United Polaris Shop: If You Can’t Steal It, Buy It…

Matthew Klint Posted onNovember 20, 2017November 14, 2023 4 Comments

United Airlines’ Saks Fifth Avenue bedding in business class is so popular United has had trouble keeping it onboard. Now you can buy it online, just in time for the holidays.

United has had a tremendous problem with the theft of Sak’s Fifth Avenue Business Class bedding. I can understand why as well—the bedding is great. It also easily slides into carry-on bags…

To address this, United has clearly printed in the business class menu that you must leave the blankets, mattress pad and pillows behind. FAs also make announcements to this effect. I laughed out loud toward the end of my San Francisco to Hong Kong flight last Tuesday when the purser practically begged passengers to leave items behind.

You would think this would be self-apparent, but I guess not…

Items include Cowshed amenities and amenity kits as well as pillows and blankets. Furthermore, United will sell you its proprietary scent, called Landing, in the form of soap, candles, or incense sticks.

As View from the Wings points out, unfortunately United is not selling Ursa, its popular polar bear found onboard select business class flights earlier this year.

But another stuffed animal is was for sale—and already sold out.

A few 747 amenities are also for sale.

CONCLUSION

If you can’t steal it, buy it. I say that in jest, but truly hope that you will buy the Polaris products here before stealing them from an aircraft. Please folks, don’t ruin it for everyone by stuffing bedding in your bags. It might not even be worth the risk…what’s the difference between a pillow and a bag?

    @ Matthew — If they really wish to deter theft, maybe they should lower the price. $59.99 is ridiculo8s for a small duvet.

      @Gene,
      Seriously ?…..I think I should walk out on the best steakhouse in town because their prices are too high or leave $10 because THAT’S WHAT I THINK I SHOULD PAY for a steak. People shouldn’t steal. Period. This would include the glomming masses from coach who think they can walk through a F-class cabin and pick up goodies along the way or on their way out.
      Now it’s just a matter of time before United dumbs down their “Polaris” cabin to cheap blankets and pillows to the level of their crap Cowshed amenities – talk about cheap. Will they ever take a page from Delta or other airlines that at least have an “idea” about amenities ?

    They should sell the Global Ball salt & pepper shakers. I wonder how many of those they lose every flight?

      I heard somewhere it was fine (and even intended) for you to take the salt and pepper shakers, and that’s why they are plastic.
