United Airlines Unveils Star Wars Livery

Matthew Klint Posted onApril 12, 2019November 14, 2023 15 Comments

United Airlines will debut a Star Wars themed livery this autumn.

In celebration of the next movie of the Star Wars franchise, Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, United is repainting one 737-800 with a special Star Wars themed livery.

United shared a few pictures of the new livery with me:

I like it. I’m not a huge Star Wars fan, but it is a bold and impressive livery.

Note, this is not United’s new livery, which will also be revealed later this month. This is just one special edition 737-800. I will say I am happy to see the bingo cage / golf ball was cut from the tail! 😉

Win Two Tickets To the Premier Of  Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

In celebration of the new livery, United is giving away two tickets to the premiere of the next Star Wars movie. In order to enter, retweet the post below, in which United debuted its new paint job. The deadline is April 13, 2019 at 3:30 CT.

CONCLUSION

United’s latest addition to the “intergalactic fleet” is not the only Star Alliance carrier with Star Wars-themed livery. ANA also has a Star Wars themed plane.

What do you think of the new United Star Wars livery?

It’s certainly … distinctive. I prefer retro liveries myself, but anything that breaks up the sea of white paint adorning most fleets is a good thing.
ANA had three Star Wars planes – not sure if they’re all still flying:

It looks very Sith-like. Maybe they’re tired of hiding their true intentions.

As board the plane, the FA shall greet you with, “feel the power of the dark side”.

And should there be needed unloading passenger for crews or vvip, they don’t need to beat them up like dr. Dao. Just use force choke.

The aircraft is N37267 if I remember correctly. It’s in AMA for paint.

United’s hinting at something with the bigger “UNITED” text on that model…

      Great point.

The new livery will just be a minor evolution of the brand, nothing crazy. I think folks will be disappointed. The gold is going away, they’re using the 787 wave across all aircraft types and the UNITED name will be a larger font. Nothing crazy.

If that’s true, I won’t be disappointed! I love the 787 wave and think it would look great across the entire fleet. Maybe it’ll be a purple wave instead of gold.

Horrible. And not a patch on ANA.

    Also, it’s “premiere”, not “premier”.

You’ll have to take that up with United. That’s how they spelled it in their note to me about this livery.

Looking at the winglets, I wondered if the plane shown is a 737-800 or a 737 MAX 8??

Aren’t ANA supposed to paint several planes in Star Was instead of United? They had quite a few, R2-D2, C-3PO, BB-8, you name it, all of them can be seen at any North American airports they fly to randomly.
