Ahead of the holidays, United Airlines will reopen four additional airport lounges. It will also discount the price of one-time club passes.

United Airlines Reopens More Airport Lounges

In late March, United Airlines shuttered most of its United Club lounges and all of its Polaris lounges for longhaul business class travelers. For months, United has maintained one lounge at its U.S. hubs.

But starting this month additional lounges will begin to open. United to plans to re-open the following four lounges:

  • Denver  – Gate B32 – November 1 (now open)
  • Houston – Gate C1 – November 10 (now open)
  • Washington Dulles – Gate D8 – November 18
  • Honolulu – Diamond Head Concourse – November 21

Depending upon holiday traffic, United is preparing to open up additional lounges.

I’ve now been in several United lounges and they are simply not crowded; everyone has room to space out. Recognizing the reduced service available and lack of crowding, United is slashing the price of one-time passes from $59 to $39. Passes are available for purchase on the United mobile app or directly at the lounge.

What To Expect In United Club

As my recent review of the United Club in Los Angeles demonstrates, expect plenty of room to spread out but a much more limited selection of food and drink. Food and snack items are currently pre-packaged and available in accordance with local health guidelines. In Los Angeles and San Francisco, all food items are located in the bar and handed to passengers (versus a self-service buffet).

Bathrooms remain operational and United Clubs no longer have showers.

The most important benefit to an airline lounge has been for the assistance available during irregular operations like delays or cancellations. With a much more limited flight schedule, that plays a far less important role these days.

CONCLUSION

United is re-opening more airport lounges and has reduced the price of a one-time pass by $20 from $59 to $39. Remember, if you have a Chase United Explorer Card you receive two electronic lounge passes each year which will be attached to your MileagePlus account on the United mobile app.

If only they would extend the expiration date of the credit card passes we’ve been unable to use during the pandemic.

How do you even use yours? My explorer card passes always expire, since I have the club card. I guess I need to travel more often with people who aren’t in my family?

Well my wife and I have over 429,000 miles and cannot travel to Thailand with out quarantine for 2 weeks once we get there. This has to bvb end we need to move on and accept that the pandemic won’t go away until the real presidents (Trump) get the vaccine destributed.

Yeah I was disappointed when I had to travel there from Newark which had an open lounge. Flying out on the red eye, it would have been nice to be in the lounge beforehand.

I wonder if Tel Aviv has a lounge open since they have become one of United’s new hubs.

Can’t imagine we’ll see any spoke airport clubs open anytime soon…HNL may be a one-off since all the UA flights from there are 5+ hours.

Huzzah! Should have never left in the first place (thanks $misek). Resumption of legacy p.s. service is a start.

Do you have confirmation on the terminal (T4?) and/or lounge (???) yet?

Quoting myself…seems to be T7 per OMAAT. Meh. Did they ever get Pre? T4 for Pre/CLEAR, Centurion, better amenities, etc. probably would have been better for pax.

5 min curb to gate in the glory days of T7 was pretty awesome though.

          Matthew,

Which club is pictured in the very first picture of this article?

Even $39 is overpriced. I rarely used my Chase passes before the pandemic — only for customer service, or late night delays when the United Club might be the only place still open. However, the LAX United Club outdoor terrace is very nice during the pandemic. It’s one of the few places where it’s ok to take the mask off, relax, and enjoy the view. I’ve actually used a couple passes there during layovers in the past month.

They should become part of priority pass. There is not one lounge in denver that can be used because united has taken over the entire airport.

Good news! I was in IAH recently and the club in E was crowded. I found a place to sit, but it wasn’t easy. I had some cup ‘o noodles and a cappuccino. And C is so very far from E that it’s nice to have one on each side of the airport. I’ve passed thru DEN a lot and the airport has been massively crowded, busier than pre-covid times, whenever I’ve been there. I haven’t been to the club, but have seen the line snaking out the door often. I’ll be in the LAX club next week so I’ll get to see what that’s like now.

Looked at buying some one time passes to burn the remaining Amex Plat credit in app and price is showing $59. Are people still seeing $39?
