United Polaris Menu for Spring 2017

Matthew Klint Posted onMarch 3, 2017March 3, 2017 6 Comments

When United Airlines rolled out its Polaris soft product in December 2016, it promised rotating menus so you would never get bored with the meal choices. While not the daily menu that KLM prints for its World Business Class, United has a refreshed spring menu that will be available onboard for the next three months.

United Polaris Menu
UNITED

Running Mach through May, United will offer the following entrees on longhaul flights departing from the United States–

  • Seared short rib with Asian-style barbecue sauce, basmati rice, carrots and sugar snap peas
  • Char siu duck with Swiss chard with pancetta and sautéed apple
  • Miso-glazed arapaima with soy beurre blanc, green tea soba noodles, bok choy, carrot and daikon
  • Ancient grain risotto with asparagus, mushroom and onion

On fights from Europe back to the Untied States, United will offer–

  • Roasted rack of lamb with mint demi-glace, Anna potatoes and green beans
  • Poached chicken breast with chicken broth, potatoes, broccolini, kale, peas and white asparagus
  • Roasted halibut with ratatouille, artichoke, pattypan squash and zucchini
  • Butternut squash ravioli with ginger-pumpkin sauce, butternut squash and mushrooms
  • Butter lettuce with cucumber, Kalamata olives, radishes and tomato, served with grilled chicken

A friend provided me this info but said there was no info listed about menu options out of Asia, South America, or Australia.

Thoughts

I’ve got a flight to Frankfurt coming soon and if my upgrade clears (looking dicey at this point!), I am going to oder the risotto. I mentioned how wonderful my risotto was in ECONOMY CLASS last week. If this risotto even comes close, I will be a very pleased customer.

The other three choices are a bit too “eastern” for my cloistered tastes — it looks like a menu coming out of Beijing. I’ve never tried arapaima (pictured above), though that is apparently a fish that breathes air.

On flights out of Europe I am pleased to see the rack of lamb on the menu. The rack of lamb I enjoyed on flight to Kuwait a couple years ago remains the best meal I have ever had on United and one of the best airline meals I have ever had. All five choices from Europe sound appetizing to me.

CONCLUSION

I enjoyed most dishes from the winter cycle but it is nice to see fresh recipes in the new spring menu. Hopefully each dish will taste as good as sounds. Feel free to chime in below with your feedback on United Polaris food.

I wish they would really change the menus. Its the same underlying menu with new sauces.

They don’t do such a great job with menus here. Flights to europe should have wester n menus. This is nuts.
