Review: United Airlines Pop-Up Club Denver (DEN)

Matthew Klint Posted onMay 29, 2023May 29, 2023 5 Comments

As United Airlines updates its B East followed by its B West United Club lounges at Denver International Airport, United has opened a temporary “pop-up” lounge in DEN near Gate B59.

United Pop-Up Club Lounge Denver (DEN) Review

I stopped by here before boarding my flight to Los Angeles, just for a few minutes to check out, and thought it was fairly respectable for a temporary lounge in terms of the set-up and space. It is located near gate B59 in The B Concourse and open daily from 7:00 am to 9:30 pm.

What United did here was put up a wall around a pair of gates. One desk serves as the check-in area and the other gate desk serves as a bar. In between, seating has been added (from the closed lounge). The lounge does not seat very many, but was far less crowded than the B West lounge.

With no kitchen, only pre-packaged food is available, which included:

  • muffins
  • cookies
  • bagels
  • bananas
  • apples
  • potato chips
  • yogurt
  • salad
  • wraps
  • hardboiled eggs

There’s also a limited selection of drinks including water, fruit juice, tea, coffee (no espresso), beer, and wine.

Interestingly, the bar also has Cantina Especial Tequila Soda, which does not appear available in the other United Clubs in Denver.

No restrooms are available inside the pop-up club, though there are terminal restrooms available outside.

Unlike the Club Fly Lounge nearby, you are not encouraged to take items to go in this lounge, despite everything being pre-packaged.

CONCLUSION

This temporary pop-up club can hardly be a described as an “airport lounge” and yet if you just want a quick snack or drink, this place is certainly better than nothing at all. I look forward to the new United Clubs in Denver (two will open later this year), but for now this will just have to do…

Interesting to note the absence of the ‘Star Alliance GOLD’ signage which is found at the entrance of most lounges operated by alliance members (including the UA one at LHR- I haven’t been to another United lounge in over a decade). Are they restricting access to *G pax due to lack of space, or just being sloppy with their temporary signs?

Exactly the first thing that I noticed too. It would be an interesting move if they indeed were doing so.

Still better than the Swissport lounge at O’hare.

Why is UA always the most gas station of all the airlines?

Whenever I am in a UA Club I always get the feeling that they got some if not all their food from a gas station.

I still remember the microwave burritos that did come directly from a gas station.

I give them credit for opening a temporary club, but geez guys, it isn’t that hard to offer prepackaged food that does not look like it came straight out of a gas station.

It is a shame because of all the airlines UA has so much potential, their new aircraft interiors are really nice, their new club designs are really nice, but wow I just cannot get gas station out of my head.

LOL I do remember those sad looking Bean Burritos that were individually wrapped in plastic, and then they still placed them in the metal heating tray. Does anyone at United ever taste the food they choose to put in clubs or are they decisions purely based on dollars & cents???
