US Airways Survived Five Days Longer in Back to the Future than in Reality!

Matthew Klint Posted onOctober 22, 2015December 5, 2016 Leave a Comment

Just a short fun post on a cool piece of movie trivia that View from the Wing brought my attention to — US Airways survived five days longer in Back to the Future II than in reality.

Today is “Back to the Future Day”, which you are free to google if you are not familiar with the movie trilogy starting Michael J. Fox. Back to the Future II was a 1989 time-travel movie in which the protagonist travelled 30 years into the future, to today…October 21, 2015.

Life in 2015 was full of technological advances — no iPhones, but skateboards that could float off the ground and self-tying Nike shoes (which Nike has announced it will introduce). And there was US Air–

Yes, with service to Vietnam! (US Air never served Asia)

Too bad AA could not have waited just one more week to retire US Airways, but I suppose two years was long enough to merge the carriers…

One other failed prediction for life in 2015 was that the Cubs would win the World Series. Unfortunately for the Cubs, they did not make it past the National League Championship Series, coincidentally losing their series to the Mets earlier this evening, who swept the Cubs in four games.

No US Air, no Cubs, but still a good movie. Happy “Back to the Future” Day!
