Virgin Galactic has unveiled a swanky new interior for its SpaceshipTwo spacecraft. With large windows, mood lighting, and ergonomics geared toward weightlessness, it is undeniably a sleek and beautiful cabin.

In a virtual unveiling ceremony hosted by Sir Richard Branson, Virgin Galactic revealed the interior design of its Spaceship Two interior:
Features include:
- Individually sized, reclining seats for G-force management and float zone volume
- Automated mood lighting harmonizes with each flight phase
- Personal seat back screens connect astronauts to live flight data
- Cabin architecture facilitates effortless movement in weightlessness
- 16 cameras provide high definition footage and stills
- 12 cabin windows for astronauts to gaze at Earth from
- Largest mirror in a spaceship cabin – mirror reflects the real-time astronaut experience
Virgin Galactic calls the passenger cabin its design centerpiece:
“Virgin Galactic, in collaboration with London design agency, Seymourpowell, has striven to [develop] an elegant but progressive, experience-focused concept for the cabin of its spaceship. While it has been created to integrate seamlessly with every other aspect of the Virgin Galactic astronaut journey – the cabin is also the design centrepiece; providing safety without distraction, quietly absorbing periods of sensory intensity and offering each astronaut a level of intimacy required for personal discovery and transformation.”

I must admit, I dream about being a passenger on Virgin Galactic. Oh to be one of seven passengers to travel 360,000 feet up in the air. But at a cost of $250,000 for the 2.5 hour flight (you used to be able to use 2,000,000 butt-in-seat miles on Virgin Atlantic for a chance to fly on Virgin Galactic), I can think of many more prudent uses of such funds…
That won’t stop me from look up whimsically at the night sky and thinking about becoming a civilian astronaut and commercial space passenger…
What do you think of the Virgin Galactic cabin interior?
The cabin is cool, in an updated ‘2001: A Space Odyssey’ kinda way. But laying out a quarter-of-a-mil for one of these 2.5-hour flights strikes me as God’s way of telling a person that they have wa-a-a-y too much disposable income.
I can’t help but think, especially during these difficult times, how much good could be done – how many people could be helped – for $250,000. There’s indulging. And then there’s indulging obscenely.
The world’s first ever transatlantic flight happened 101 years ago during a pandemic. Perhaps this is just destiny.
No inflight IFE? Forget it.
But the fruit and cheese plate (now available on premium routes ex-JFK) is delicious. Kids love ’em!
