Waited too long to burn my Hyatt "Big Welcome Back" nights…

Matthew Klint Posted onAugust 22, 2010 3 Comments

Ugh. I knew I waited too long too call…

I’ve got a couple free nights left from Hyatt’s spring "Big Welcome Back" promotion, where you could opt to receive one free night at any Hyatt hotel worldwide for every two nights you stayed, and was planning to redeem them at the Park Hyatt in Washington, DC this weekend (before they expire on 8/31). Sadly, when I rang the Hyatt Platinum line yesterday I was informed that there was no space on Friday. While not surprising, especially considering that my trip is less than a week away and we’re still in the summer tourist season, it’s never fun to have your weekend plans dashed.

Hyatt has really grown on me this year and I’ve fallen in love with the Park Hyatt chain. I was able to reserve a room for Saturday night, so at least I’ll get one night at the hotel. The DC area is full of Hyatt hotels, including a Grand Hyatt and Hyatt Regency in the District, but rather than waste a free night certificate on any of those hotels (I have tried at most of them), my parents will be taking a little trip down south to the new Park Hyatt in Carlsbad, CA–just north of San Diego.

Rumors are swirling that Hyatt may announce a new "Big Welcome Back" promotion this week that will extend through the end of the year. Such an announcement would bode very well for my seven nights in China after Christmas.

One day is really not enough time to get a good feel for a hotel, but I’ll take what I can get and one day at a Park Hyatt is certainly better than none at all! Stay tuned for a detailed report.

I think you’ll really enjoy the PH Washington. I used one of my last BWB nights there last Monday. My first PH experience. I wish I had more than one night, and I wasn’t in town for work, my visit was much too short. Wow.

We used 4 FFNs at PH DC this summer. We really like this hotel. The only negative is that the air conditioning in the Premier rooms is inadequate. This was true of all four rooms we had. On our last stay, we called ahead a couple hours and asked them to close all the drapes and turn the a/c down all the way. That made a big difference. Enjoy your stay!

@Gene: I took your advice and asked them to turn on the a/c early. I’m glad I did–the room was still a bit warm (though not uncomfortable).
