After another particularly stressful week at work, I was looking forward to relaxing at home this weekend and catching up on things I have neglected over the last week, including this blog. As I mentioned earlier in the week, my plan was to remain in Germany until the end of the busy summer travel season. That was my plan…
I received an offer from a colleague with a spare buddy pass to go traveling this weekend–I could pick the location, as long as it was a non-stop Lufthansa flight of less than four hours. Who could turn that offer down?
Iceland was my first choice, but that would have required a connection in Hamburg or Dusseldorf. That left five cities: Algiers, Tunis, Riga, Belgrade, and Kiev. Algiers was next on the list, but flight loads down looked bad. Belgrade and Riga were high on the list, but it is always relatively cheap to get tickets to those cities, so I chose Kiev–the Ukrainian capital city and a city standing at the crossroads between east and west.
It will be a quick trip, but I look forward to spending the next couple days exploring a new city and checking out the Hyatt Regency in Kiev. Looks like my next trip report will have to wait a bit longer!
I just can’t stay in one place more than a few days…
