Yum: Birch-Smoked Norwegian Salmon On SAS

SAS offers fresh and delicious meals for purchase in economy class or on a complimentary basis in SAS Premium class on flights within Europe and the birch-smoked salmon is a winner.

Taste Teset: Birch-Smoked Norwegian Salmon On SAS

We were recently flying from Zürich (ZRH) to Copenhagen (CPH) on SAS Connect and, like all SAS flights in Premium (Plus) class, a meal was served. In Europe, you won’t get a “real” business class seat unless you fly on Turkish Airlines, Aeroflot, or a few ITA Airways aicraft, but you can expect a meal even on those very short flights, like this one, that would never have meal service on a flight of simliar length in the USA.

SAS offers delicious, fresh food on its flights within Europe. Economy class passengers can order them in advance, while they are offered for free in the front cabin. Today’s only offer in premium was smoked salmon.

Birch-smoked salmon is salmon that has been smoked using the wood of birch trees. It’s known for its unique flavor profile, often described as having a balance of deep smoke and earthy undertones, sometimes with a subtle sweetness (thank you Google…).

SAS currently serves these meals in disposable boxes, but will return to service in ceramic dishes and metal cutlery when it reintroduces intra-Europe business class this autumn.

The meal was served with rågknäckebröd (rye crispbread) and the salmon had a very flavorful lemon-pickled cabbage and a creamy potato salad with dill. It was a very refreshing meal.

Well, I thought this was a delicious fresh meal, but the kids rejected it…

As SAS prepares to refresh its catering this fall, it should ensure it does not mess up these fresh meals…leave well enough alone, please!

Now if only KLM has plans to ditch their meals in boxes too…

Is there anything you don’t complain about? Food is food, be happy you get it.

As I have said many times, nothing is ever enough for you people. It’s why we made a mistake giving in to your demands. Lifestyle choices shouldn’t be a protected class.

Come on, Dave. Enough of that.

Lol he has no life. So he needs this to give him any sort of purpose.

Also the irony of him calling out others for complaining…

            No life?

If you could only see my flight schedule for the rest of the year. But yea, I don’t have any responsibilities in the world, next to no worries and I am still a big immature kid at heart that lives in the non PC world of the 80’s I grew up in. My travel is purely for my personal entertainment.

I call things as I see them and certainly did ok for myself with my life choices. As you probably have done with yours. However I’ve probably said enough to not upset Matt with my usual stance on yours.

Mmm. Looks great. Did you find the birch smoke flavor mint-like?

Have you tried Alaskan coho in birch syrup glaze?

I actually just want SAS to bring back the freshly warmed bread service to go with these meal boxes.

I have a feeling that I will come across with this salmon meal box on one of my upcoming SAS Plus flights.

Well, I guess you can eat healthy out of a cardboard box; sort of; except for the high salt in the salmon…and high sugar for what the kids eat…
